Let's just look at the J15. China bought from Russia a naval variation of the 80s era SU27 and then proceeded to reverse engineer and make unlicensed copies of the plane much to the objections of Russia. However China has not had much success getting the plane to work properly on their aircraft carrier. The plane is to heavy to carry a useful load off of a carrier even if they get it's other problems sorted out. And this is just one of their planes but many of the weapons systems they have are in similar condition.
