  1. I've never heard Trump say that. It may be true! But I've never heard Trump say any such thing.
  2. Nice rig f7. I'm not much for GM. But if you got out from under monthly payments, good on you! I just got this rig: It's got almost 1,200 miles on it. It's smooth, except the rear speakers are lame, little more than ear-buds. I'd like to upgrade. But the trunk is tiny, and even 6"x 9" would intrude. It's basically a "two plus two", so I'm considering just setting some speakers in cabinet on the rear seats. Otherwise the stereo is fantastic! It's got a USB port. I don't have an iPod, but NewEgg sells 16GB USB 3.0 flash drives for <$6.oo ea. * I've already "ripped" dozens of my favorite CDs onto it, and bought a dozen spares (solves that problem permanently!). It displays each CD on the same display screen the backup camera displays on. Pick the CD, and then select any track within it; at at 65MPH (or more), one finger. - cool - Let us know how the 10" works out. * I started with ADATA thumb-drives. But the ones SP/Silicon Power sells are a little more compact, and better designed, & cheaper at the time of purchase. Both brands come from the factory formatted FAT32, so "ripping" the CDs is a breeze! I use an Asus i7 computer w/ Windows 7 for that. Couldn't be easier! It's like having the entire CD collection aboard, w/ access at your fingertips; but without the liability (if the car is vandalized I don't risk losing $thousands worth of CDs, just a $6.oo thumb drive, which is already duplicated for my home stereo).
  3. #2 a) I'm not running for the executive branch of United States federal government. b) I'm not scheduled for televised debate tomorrow night. c) I never said otherwise. My comment was: " top notch professionals ". You think " Kaine is an imbecile " singles him out from any other politician in the U.S.? Running low on Thorazine?
  4. 3 U.S. presidential candidate debates scheduled, one already gone: Hillary declared the tepid winner. BUT !! There's only ONE VP candidate debate this cycle. Kaine / Pence scheduled for October 4, at 9:PM/ET These two candidates are top notch professionals, and candidly we might all be better off if they each were at the top of their tickets. BUT !! Whatever. Their candidate debate will be broadcast on NBC. Be there, or be square.
  5. #1 - #7 - alright - Plus: We can't pin this on the New York Don alone. Trump rose to this towering level of submission to the Democrats via a conspiracy of MILLIONS of Republican primary voters. TRUMP WON THE REPUBLICAN NOMINATION !! How could they POSSIBLY not have known they were helping put Hillary on the throne? "Liar, liar; pants suit on fire!" Stephen Colbert
  6. You've got me curious. I have a vintage 6-pack of Stihl 2 cycle oil. Each bottle is 2.6 oz, and lists as mixing w/ one gallon of gasoline. But the price tag on it is $9.oo and it's so old, I'm guessing by now it would sell for $12.oo While at a home center (probably Lowe's or Home Depot) I got some generic bottles, also 2.6 oz. The label lists multiple ratios, from 40: to 16:1. Am I really supposed to believe the contents of the orange bottle is that far superior to the contents of the black bottle? And regardless of what the label says * isn't there more difference between the bottles than the oil they contain? They're both 2.6 oz. * I understand. Each is engineered for a specific application. BUT !! That's an optimization issue. In differential analysis, am I supposed to believe the oil from the orange bottle will have my Stihl for perpetuity, but the generic will blow it up before lunchtime?
  7. #595 I like apple and maple. But I frequently use poplar because it's easier to regulate the fire with it.
  8. Alright. Can you carb adjuster experts post a brief, simple procedure on how to adjust a carb? I've gotten an engine running by fiddling with the adjustments. But I don't really understand how to optimize for performance. I ride a Yamaha XT-250 which backfires when I shift. It's done this since the showroom floor. Other XT riders say a carb adjustment will fix it.
  9. Some people don't know it but Chris Wallace is the son of retired news guru Mike Wallace. The funniest part the NYT didn't pay taxes in 2014 cuz they lose so much money I never really thought of the United States Constitution's First Amendment as all that amusing. The press, the 4th estate may not be a branch of government. But we depend on it heavily, and have done so since before our nation's founding. U.S. Founder Benjamin Franklin was a publisher, the Ted Turner of his day. He published Poor Richard's Almanac. The newspaper industry is in upheaval due to the proliferation of new technology such as "smart phones", the Internet, etc. It's hardly a laughing matter. Would you laugh if Daniel Ellesberg was not able to publish the Pentagon Papers? Or are you simply a champion of ignorance? That newspapers can go out of business, and rather than being a detriment to our society, it would be a lark? Let me guess: you don't subscribe to a newspaper. Do you?
  10. Thanks sg. I'd been wondering whether your saw inspired Stihl to compete against that specific model with the model pictured in post #1. "Farm Boss". You tell me. Wc #19 I absolutely did not know that! Based upon drunken banter at lumberjack bars I'd believed Husky was near top of the line, or at least top tier in chainsaw brands, and that Poulan was low on the ladder, made for private consumers for light yard work. Live & learn! Thanks.
  11. By 7:30 this AM, @~50F on freshly rained upon roads and overcast sky, I had a motorcycle ride. I see the trees along the highway are turning; some near peak.
  12. I have a friend & neighbor, a self-taught / shirt-sleeve connoisseur who is also an avid hunter. He makes his own venison jerky. Often when jerky is made, the least choice cuts of meat are used. And you can tell. Half of the volume you're chewing on doesn't taste too bad. The other half leaves you feeling like you're gnawing on a saddle. So this guy uses lean venison, and seasons it meticulously; not too hot, not too salt, etc. Excellent balance. Delicious.
  13. In my part of the Adirondack Park autumn foliage has become a tourist attraction. BUT !! Due to below average rainfall ("global warming" don't you know) it's reported that in this locality leaves are falling off the trees before they turn the otherwise eye-catching yellows & reds this region is known for. BUT !! It's still a great time of year.
  14. Alright. I've got some oil questions here. a) It seems there's a variety of 2 stroke engine / fuel oils, designed for different ratios. Obviously the Stihl people want you to buy and use Stihl brand engine / fuel oil. I generally don't. I just buy the same sized bottle of whatever 2 stroke engine / fuel oil is available, and mix that w/ my chainsaw fuel. I haven't noticed a problem. Is there a significant risk here? b) Chain / bar oil. They want me to buy dedicated Stihl chain / bar oil, which by odd coincidence is more expensive than other similar lubricants such as 10w-30 crankcase oil. Is there a compelling reason to use the more expensive stuff? c) Sometimes I end up with extra petroleum-based automotive fluids for which I have no further use. I had a spare quart of Dexron II automatic transmission fluid, and then traded in the car I would have poured it into. I could throw it out, but that then becomes a pollution / waste stream problem. So instead of throwing it out, I mixed it with my chain-bar oil, and used it up that way. Bad idea? I haven't noticed any problem. It seems to be a fairly adequate lubricant for that application. note: I wouldn't do that with brake fluid. Brake fluid chemistry is a little more complicated, & brake fluid doesn't seem to have the shear-strength necessary for a chain / bar lube. ============================= Bonus Question ================================ Chain tension: Some say the chain should be tensioned so there's no droop, that the chain occlude the bar 360 degrees. Others say the portion of the chain under the bar should droop as much as half a drive tooth, or more. For certain, run the chain too loose, and it can derail, and jam; EXTREMELY bad idea! But what's the best way to tension a chainsaw chain, and why?
  15. beer It's Saturday night. I think I'll watch Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid, which I haven't seen since the 1970's. I've got a little Barton's gin on the side. I may try a sip if there's any booze drinking on the screen (might as well join the party).
  16. The Tennessee / Georgia game was a mind-blower! I didn't see most of the game (I have it on DVR). 4th Quarter: 2 minutes left: Tennessee leads Georgia 28:24 19 seconds left: Time out: 1st & 15 for Georgia The next play is a TD, leaving 10 seconds on the clock, Tennessee 28 Georgia 30 The facial expressions of shock & dismay on the Tennessee fans, priceless! Georgia's extra point: GOOD! score Tennessee 28 Georgia 31 w/ 10 seconds on the game clock Tennessee receives the kick, & with a 5 yard penalty starts the next play with 4 seconds on the game clock from the Georgia 43 yard line. In the last play of the game, started w/ 4 seconds left, the clock dropped to zero while the ball was still in the QB's hands. He tossed a hail mary, it was caught, and Tennessee won, leaving the Georgia fans looking as bewildered as the Tennessee fans had 10 game clock seconds later. The Tennessee coach was so overwhelmed, on his jaunt across the field to shake hands w/ Georgia's coach, he collapsed to one knee, quivering so severely a policeman / bodyguard checked on him. Quite a game!
  17. It becomes an engineering problem. I doubt every chain is compatible with every bar. I doubt every drive sprocket is compatible with every chain gauge. It's probably least expensive to buy the saw with the gauge chain you want, and stick with it. But the underlying physics is clear. Smaller kerf, less work for the motor. They're wildly popular around here. Our commercial electric power provider, National Grid has contracted out the tree cutting / brush clearing under their power lines to a 3rd party private contractor. They use Stihl. The only problem I have w/ my 026 is there's a pebble lodged in the long tunnel that leads to the chain oiler adjustment. The pebble blocks the adjustment. So now the chain gets way over-oiled, and flings oil everywhere. I just got a compressor. I may try to blow the pebble out. I don't want to have to tear the saw down, just for a pebble. So I've been using the MS 290 instead. It's fine, and candidly, a little quieter. I can't figure out why it's not fuel injection. Computer chips are so stunningly cheap these days. EFI would seem a hand & glove match. I've never heard of either one.
  18. #77 Why not lead by example Z? Post it the way it should have been.
  19. Around here, some prefer Jon Sered, or Husqvarna. But Stihl uses a narrower gauge chain, which means a narrower kerf, which means the engine has to convert less wood (tree) into sawdust per cut. So the Stihl has an advantage right out of the box. Why the starting system is such an absolutely hideous abortion, an absolute engineering embarrassment I still haven't figured out. FACT: The single worst time to ever over-rev an engine is when it's stone cold. Yet Stihl meticulously engineers their choke / throttle system to only start the saw on absolute maximum full throttle. I battle that ridiculous, deliberate design flaw every time I start my saw cold. But otherwise these saws aren't horrible. And with a tractor with a bucket on it, clearing up downed trees is a relative breeze.
  20. #72, 3, & 4 I've only just met the poster. But the personality is reminiscent of that I encountered in kindergarten, and elementary school. Ad hom is familiar in fora where posts are lodged under pseud. But rarely have I seen ad hom in the subject line.
  21. Nice. I've got two Stihl's. A ~35 year old ~026 or whatever it is. The 5 year old one is an MS 290. I just got a new bar and chain for that one; haven't put them on yet.
