there is no such thing as ground school .....there is a written portion of the FAA exam for a private but that will be learned as I go or with some reading material acquired along the way

Cool. I don't know if things have changed up here in Ontario but I seem to remember my buddy having to do a certain amount of GS before they got to fly. But that was decades ago.

Its probably different for CA and US but I am sure there are some flight schools that do ground training to milk what money out of you they can. I called this CFI to ask about an introductory flight and she said the following. "I think that sounds like a waste of time , if you wanna fly we'll book two hours and start at the start"
