Not greg b
Kinross is the local track to me. I will go check out some events once the weather gets warm. I also watch a lot of Garett Mitchel’s pay per view races. He brought that old dosoto speedway out of the bushes, revived it and has people out there racing.

Their website has 2024 rules and 7 races. Be interesting to know how many cars they get in each class. They have to be the only pavement track for many miles around. I have friends that race in it and it is more than you would think. It’s kinda like Mira for snowmobiles. They also are talking about making the soo I500 track a dirt track in the summer Edited May 10 by Not greg b

I would think making the I-500 track a dirt track in the summer wouldn't draw a big car count. Straights that long are hard on motors and I can only imagine how rough it would get thru the corners, plus the locals probably wouldn't have any of it. In the 70's central Wisconsin had 4 half mile dirt tracks. That is down to 1 now in Shawno Wis. which has long straights and tight corners. The late model portion of the show use to have 3-4 heats and around 30 cars. Now they only draw 9 to 12 late models total with one heat race and feature. Even guys local to Shawno in late models and other classes are choosing to run other shorter tracks in the area.
Doug
Went for breakfast ended up helping to pick up a new Maxim sprint car chassis. Local hardware store sponsor's a sprint car and the driver took a tumble Saturday. After looking at the chassis found the chassis was broke in 6 places Now changed to a new Maxim chassis that a guy had 40 miles away.

racinfarmer
Sprint cars are pretty much throw away chassis. Most cars are to an extent these days.

Throw away yes but to break in 6 places and it wasn't that bad of a tumble. The chassis was from the West coast and just looking it does seem to be chromoly as it's claimed. Doug
15 minutes ago, racinfarmer said: XXX chassis? Maybe.......... I was just along for the ride/delivery of the chassis. But just looking at the chassis and knowing materials/welding from my work experience the tubes should have bent even collapsed before they broke and to see the chassis break in 6 places I wouldn't feel comfortable in the seat. Don't know the history of the chassis but it didn't appear it had been repaired. On a good note none of the tubes broke through the weld or the root of the weld so the welding process was good. Talking to the drivers dad they didn't like what they seen so they went a different direction on the chassis and were lucky to find one close. Theses are chromoly. The new chassis is a Maxim.

XXX chassis claimed the chassis is made from Chromoly they also went on to say they design their frames to break to absorb the energy. That's one scary thought when it comes to a sprint car chassis. The chassis had 6 obvious breaks from what they could see and it wasn't that hard of a flip.

Either is fine as well as any other class as long as it's on dirt.

I had a guy at a truck stop ask me what was in the trailer. When I told him, he said he'd rather pay $100 to watch 1 late model hot lap then a whole weekend of modifieds for less money. Friggen whacko. The late model crowd just fawns over certain sponsors too. "So and so sponsors them, and they have a lot of money you know." Gee, Safer Web shows they have 14 active tractors. I can spin in a circle on the farm while pissing and hit that many.

Still see some great races with street stock, IMCA stock car, mods and sprint car. As long as the races are competitive and decent car counts I'm good with thar. If we get done early enough we're going to a dirt track tomorrow.

Fun times, but it was some long nights on the road to find pavement tracks.
