Welders

Any you guys weld or know diesel tractors? 

Looking to weld a cheep thumb on my tractors backhoe .

Do I have to take hoe off? Ie will welding fuck up any electronics? 

I am a farm welder at best did a fast web search and got nothing

You would be hard pressed to cause any issues unless you are willing high amperage beside the ecm or sharing the same ground  path, using the vehicles alternator to weld might do it...

Ground on the arm send it. Path of least resistance.

You can use one of those antizap surge protectors too if the battery is a pain in the ass to get to but it has remote terminals. My bosses new holland is like that much easier than taking bunch of crap off to disconnect the battery.

Disconnect the battery and ECU if it's easy to get to.  Put the ground as close to your weld as you can.  You may also want to pre-heat the bucket as it probably high carbon and do some post heat to bring the temperature down slowly so you don't get any cracks in the weld.

unhook battery, ecu if its easy to get to (ASSuming it even has one) fire up the buzz box, and throw some old damp 7018, (or whatever is sitting on the shelf) at it.
