Meanwhile, in the UK

Recommended Posts

It’s getting hot in hurrrr……

Climate scientists have expressed shock at the UK’s smashed temperature record, with the heat soaring above 40C for the first time ever on Tuesday.

Researchers are also increasingly concerned that extreme heatwaves in Europe are occurring more rapidly than models had suggested, indicating that the climate crisis on the European continent may be even worse than feared.

Temperature records are usually broken by fractions of a degree, but the 40.2C recorded at Heathrow is 1.5C higher than the previous record of 38.7C recorded in 2019 in Cambridge.

What a great alternative. Solar panels that don't work and wind turbines that don't spin when it's too hot. :lol:GrEeN EnErgYZ!!!!!

But yeah, let's plow up all the land between Phoenix and Riverside CA and install solar panels in the hottest place on the North American continent.

Thermal is feeling it too….

Solar panels are not the only energy source that can see electricity output reduced by high temperatures. In France, electricity output from two nuclear power plants was reduced last week owing to the heat wave raising the temperature of the water in the nearby Rhône River used to cool nuclear reactors.

“Thermal power plants—that’s coal-fired power plants, gas-fired power plants, and nuclear power plants—need huge amounts of cooling water,” Pier Stapersma, a senior researcher with the Clingendael International Energy Programme in the Netherlands, told Fortune.

Wonder what reduced power output of a nuke plant is compared to a solar panel?

France’s nuclear reactors were operating at 46% of capacity on Friday, down from 47% on Wednesday, according to Bloomberg calculations using data from grid operator RTE.
