Russian oil exports have dropped over 30%. Couple this with the current recession and the high probability of it deepening, and the future doesn’t look too good for Russia. The lower oil prices drop, the more Putin is going to discount. I haven’t even discussed the exodus of western oil companies and their technology leaving Russia. While the amount of oil on the global scene has remained pretty much the same, western oil companies are finding themselves at a greater disadvantage to national owned oil companies. The tide had shifted rapidly and private oil companies are getting squeezed hard. 65% of the world’s oil reserves are under the control of states and its increasing.
