Fatherless home is statistically by far the largest hurdle any male can overcome regardless of ethnicity. Especially as it becomes multi generational. Finish HS, stay out of jail, don't have kids out of wedlock and have a job and you won't live under the poverty level. Lets be clear the increase in single parent households is not just an AA issue although its most significant in that group.
