says the guy who picks a minor inconvenience like wearing a mask in a store for 5 minutes as his hill to die on

Maybe quite a bit more literal than metaphorical as well...

Vietnam had 369 cases and zero deaths. Also near 100% mask use from the start.

Simple cloth masks do absolutely nothing......they can limit contact spread in the same way sneezing or coughing into your arm would.

They are often divided into small droplets (and many, but not all, people reserve the term “aerosol” to refer only to these small droplets) and large droplets. Large droplets drop to the ground before they evaporate, causing local contamination. Disease transmission through these large droplets is what we often refer to as “droplet/contact spread”, where disease transmission occurs because you touch a surface contaminated by these droplets, or get caught within the spray zone when the patient is coughing. Aerosols are so small that buoyant forces overcome gravity, allowing them to say suspended in the air for long periods, or they evaporate before they hit the floor, leaving the solid particulate (“droplet nuclei”) free to float very long distances, causing what we often refer to as “airborne” transmission. I'll ask again, what does the state have to gain with high rates of mask use?

Is it a conspiracy to get us to be more considerate of each other or something?

It’s a simple as a test to see how many people will conform to an offer to mitigate some sort of threat....

The vaccine will be next

Unfortunately, the only randomized trial in a clinical setting predates the current crisis and looked at influenza and other viruses. A 2015 study in BMJ Open looked at 1,607 hospital workers in Vietnam and tested surgical masks versus cloth masks versus usual care. Penetration of the cloth masks by particles was 97 per cent compared to 44 per cent for surgical masks and the rate of influenza-like illness was 2.3 per cent for cloth masks versus 0.2 per cent for surgical masks versus 0.7 per cent in the control group.

Cloth masks did worse than surgical masks in terms of protecting health-care workers, and oddly also did worse than usual care. Many people in the usual care group wore wear masks intermittently, which likely explains why their infection rate was so low. So while cloth masks might not be dangerous or make things worse, their ability to protect people seems limited.

Upon reviewing the footage, the team ranked the efficacy of the three cloth masks (as well as a three-ply surgical face mask, which was determined to be the most effective option). Overall, the correlation between the number of fabric layers and efficacy was stark: the more layers a cloth mask had, the more effective it was in protecting against the spread of droplets. The footage revealed that single-layer masks barely impeded the spread of droplets at all: in that demonstration, the aerosols dispersed through the air with visible ease.

Seems legit...

Youd have to be one dumb motherfucker to think a fucking bandana over your face was protecting you from anything

Masks like that were never intended to protect the wearer. Stop using dripper level logical fallacies.

They don’t protect anyone around you either....as proven by many studies

Is drip telling people to kill themselves next door?

Is this a real life iteration of 'Face/Off'?

I’ve provided evidence from studies stating simple cloth masks do nothing. Of course it was obvious to anyone with a fucking brain all along.

What is it about masks that turns people into fatalistic inconsiderate idiots that need to use logical fallacy to protect themselves from cognitive dissonance?

Science says the mask does nothing....you’re a fucking follower

And I clearly stated that they are better than nothing, but surgical masks are best for the application.

Surgical masks haven’t been mandated and science says simple cloth masks do absolutely nothing
