The entire point of a chicane is to stay on the track and be slowed down to corner, if racers can cut it off, leaving the track completely, and then block drivers that remained though the chicane it voids their use. IMO it shouldn't be a time penalty, but a position penalty, and applied immediately (within reason, when the ruling is made). Neal It looked like a racing incident to me. Vettle didn't intentionally go through the chicane to gain an advantage. It looked to me like it took him until he got to the wall (racing line) to get his car back under control. Problem is unintentionally or not the chicane should be enforced. The issue is that intent can't always be determined, and going off the course should be a penalty.
