2024 Arctic Cat Catalyst 'Chassis' details?
I think this is a bigger deal than riders realize. My dealer has found quite a few. I was in to pick up the sled and he asked if I had time to wait while they checked mine. They were off by about 1/4". I'm not sure how much that would have affected operation. Some of their early riding customers came back with sleds that ran terrible. Their valves were much further out of alignment. It seems to be pretty random which sled is or isn't out of alignnment. The instructions mention that the servo code only show up after three failed servo cycles. I doubt many are far enough out of whack to stop servo function.

Water softener systems
How hard is the water? If you are on city water the info is probably online. On demand units are the way to go. The range of options is probably the biggest real difference. I don't care for all the fancy monitoring stuff, but that's me. Some people want displays and phone apps. The hardest part about installation is the plumbing tap. The plumbing itself is basically a loop spliced into the line. You want to find a spot that is after outside faucets if possible. I run soft water to the garage and untreated to the yard. The discharge generally runs to a nearby floor drain. That water comes out at a pretty decent clip so I run the hose into a pvc cap zip tied to the drain grate. That prevents splashing and keeps the floor dry. I get the idea of having filtration. I'd keep it to the drinking water and ice makers if possible. Whole house systems have higher ongoing costs and R.O. systems are nuts. Cut down the volume through your filtration to stuff that matters.

Catalyst clutching
That is a big deal if people don't realize. It's pretty easy to get the wrong size started. I dang near pulled the mistake with multiple secondaries on the bench.

Hard lesson the "western" world is learning.
People were already blabbing about this issue over a century ago. There was a political party in the mid 1800s dedicated to the issue.(Know nothings) I know nothing about how they got their name. It was an odd choice. The Johnson - Reed act in 24' laid out quota numbers. Early European immigrants didn't like the Asian newcomers so we created moratoriums to stop that flow. It's almost odd to look at some things people thought were so bad. In the early days, the stream of alien blood was a bunch of Catholics. I can't argue that crime and gangs are bad. I think we'd have better luck controlling the issue when we realize it's not mainly an immigration issue. We can shut down every pinhole on the border and see how things look after that happens. I don't think we'll see any miracles. I'd be willing to bet we'd have a plenty of bitching about the cost of doing things. Silly stuff like building, eating, and traveling. We certainly can quit handing out govt. checkbooks to a spendy welfare practice. Let volunteers, families, or whoever wants, do it on their own dime. When they run out of money and enthusiasm, the process ends. Immigration works when everybody shows up to work. It doesn't work so well when we lose that aspect.

Opioid overdose deaths plunge across America.
I bet you are pretty close. The regular users are probably better prepared to deal with bad concoctions too. The wild west of hard core drugs killed a lot of casual users that didn't have a clue. It still seems amazing that Fentanyl has become a regular street drug. The stuff has been around forever, (early 1960s) and used quite regularly in dental and surgery. I don't think anyone thought it was a good idea to play with the stuff back then because of the strength. Regular users have learned to manage the strength and it's cheap. It makes me wonder how long it will be before users decide to start doing carfentanil? We used to call that stuff elephant tranquilizer. It is beyond the next level of nasty. That would probably thin out the herd. On a side note. Cold medicines are behind the counter because of the pseudoephedrine inside. That was a primary component for meth labs. It is easier to monitor high volume sales by adding the additional checkpoint. The overall drugs themselves don't have any special regulatory status.

Flashlites
I wonder how they figured out 990,000 lumens? I've been using the D4V2 lights with 3-5k lumens. They are bright. They get hot when you run them at full clip. I can't fathom a hand held light at 990k.

My Trump wish list for the first 100 days.
Some good ideas. Energy prices will be easy. That move has been on trend with supply build up for three years. We are headed for surplus supply. It wouldn't take much to manage if he's serious. We should see quite soon how true those promises ring. The OT thing has always been a thorn in my side. Sounds like a great theory. Add in something for the salary peeps too. I did a couple long gigs on salary. Taxes didn't mean squat burgers on my income. Check was the same if I worked 90 hours a week. There was no OT. I had some EEs that wouldn't touch volunteer OT because they didn't like the perceived higher taxes. Some just changed their exemptions during peak and hauled home a ton. I wonder how companies will play with the OT issue? People will create OT so they can ride the bigger checks and associated tax break. I foresee two potential approaches. Zero OT policies so employees don't create their own - or less headcount and cover all extra work with less people. Employees in the latter version could make big bucks if they can last. I'd expect to see OSHA type involvement with work hour restrictions. The Ukraine thing will be a walk away. Trump will rely on his popularity importance to make it easier for Putin. War is never a good thing. Unfortunately, walking away doesn't usually fix the problem. I believe the later mess will be bigger. The East would like to combine into a superpower. They want US influence and dollar commerce to go away. We will turn into an accessory power if they are successful. That concern is the only reason anyone else started playing in the first place. It's not about Ukraine. I hope Trump doesn't use the easy button method. I'm concerned that he will play the popularity contest for awhile and be gone before the end result.

Things Are Looking Bad for UTV and Snowmobile Maker Polaris
I tossed around some pricing this fall. Those buggers sure went up in price.

Any know why NASCAR doesn’t allow tailpipes out the rear of the car?
I'd never thought much about the effect of exhaust when they are drafting. It does make some sense with the "vacuum" in the pocket. That air doesn't get near the blending. I'm a little surprised the side air doesn't get pulled in enough to still make it an issue. Some of this stuff sounds a little fluffed. I would think weight loss and power gain would be big factors with side exits. In the big picture I'd think that's more important than whether the guy following you is running hot.

Ooffda, I just checked. I didn't realize the price on the bottom gear. Seems silly to complain about the costs with this stuff, but they keep adding up if we want to try new tricks.

I also see that the 858 version is using 9t drivers vs. 8t on last year's 600 models with that gearing. If these things can use the shift, there is plenty of room to clang the c note.

U.S.-born workers lost more than 1.3 million jobs, while foreign-born workers gained over 1.2 million jobs during the same period.
Hard work is hard. It is fairly easy to see which jobs require hard work based on the people doing the job. Is that right or wrong? Hard to say. I do know that a lot of things wouldn't get done without someone willing to do hard work. Those jobs exist and somebody better be ready to do the task. I wish the high school kid next door was willing, but that isn't common. The whole ordeal with people that just don't care is tough. Lazy has always been around, but not giving a **it was not as common. Those buggers are tough to deal with out there. I prefer working with people that take pride in a job well done. I've worked with some heavy accents that knocked it out of the park when the job needs to be done and done right.

Trump Tells Christians They Won't Have to Vote in Future: 'We'll Have It Fixed'
I'd agree. We have so much fluff trying to grab ratings that actual news is hard to find. Seems like the truth is buried even deeper.

I thought the brake rotor was supposed to have a little wiggle? My understanding is that allows for a driveshaft that might not run true. Whatever the reason, I think I've always had loose fitting rotors. The clip doesn't clamp them in place.

Marjorie Taylor Greene is an idiot. She is trying to wreck the GOP
She sounds like a guest on Springer when she's rattling. I can't imagine how that helps.

That looks amazingly familiar. At least your bumper rivets are still holding.

Steep ramps are a bear on belts... Belts are cold, clutches are cold. Carbides are sharp. I keep an old belt around for ramp loading.

2024 Arctic Cat Catalyst 'Chassis' details?
I have a brand new sno X flap and all the hardware sitting here and ready to go. I picked up the parts with the intent of running a longer flap on a Procross just for giggles. I'd have to fab up mounts to put one on a Catalyst. The stock mounting setup is two holes on the plane of the tunnel and those goofy tabs riveted to the bumper. The stock flap works, but it's flimsy. If you are in sticky snow the stock flaps carry a lot of weight with the design of those ribs on the last section. Riders will get tired of replacing flaps and just cut off that portion. I had one pop off running mogul slush piles going through the Houghton stretch. Bud said he could see the thing flopping up and down until it finally broke loose. Said it looked like slush bombs were kicking it out. The final pop came on a road crossing with a big ol plow berm on the other side. The flap hit on road hard, flipped up and popped. Probably got lucky it happened right in that area. I had a torx driver for the two tunnel screws in my kit but I don't carry a rivet gun. I rode that flapless overheating bugger to the dealer and borrowed their tool. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of riders will tear off stock flaps with a simple reverse into any kind of snow. I saw mine start rolling under the track just backing down the ramp first time I unloaded. Good thing I was watching close and didn't do a tear off. Would have been just stupid to go back to the dealer for a new flap with that story. How many miles on the sled? "Zero, It's only been in reverse for fifteen feet. You guys loaded it with your forklift." The sno X flap might not be a bad idea.

I've seen that happen just by switching lead in smooth set up snow. That's just one sled chewing up the hard pack.

2024 Arctic Cat Catalyst 'Chassis' details?
@Crnr2Crnr, Funny you mention the DIY version. I've made those for years because I got tired of the customized stock version. I noticed that I was collecting chunks on my back in the corners with the Catalyst sleds. It took a few miles to remember that it's been awhile since I've had a sled without flares. It's not a big deal, but I often have my jacket loose. Those snow buggers get chilly when they land in the collar. I noticed the part numbers for the Catalyst flares and hoped to see how they were shaped. I still haven't seen anything. I've still got a sheet of polycarb stuff sitting around. If I run out of crap to do it might be worth mocking up something.

2024 Arctic Cat Catalyst 'Chassis' details?
I think they run right on the edge of cooling capacity. I've had a few good runners that always ran hot temps right next to one that did not. The good runners also used less fuel on each stop. Basically fast and lean also meant hot temps. Those zuke motors needed big gas and oil lines but they ran cool temps.

The only thing I saw on the Catalyst was the self induced NS1 low threshold warning. I was on the RXC most miles and K, aka. Big guy was on a 137 ATAC. He mentioned that his was flashing during a stretch of RR grade rockpiles. I didn't think much at the time, but now that I've read a few pages of the manual, I guess that one actually was running high temps. I'm sure it was an air bubble based on the early coolant service. I hope the big motor has cooling that works like these 600 sleds. We rode in a lot of junk and the cooling was enough except for the rockpile run. To be honest, I was pretty impressed. Riding is more fun when I can take that crap off the list.

I've never had a sport gauge. Does it do a tiered warning system? Ahh, never mind. I actually went and looked at an owners manual. It looks like both sport and deluxe give flash warnings at 176 and stay constant when they start dumping fuel at 185 temp. I'll be damned . I learned something today. Now I know why the stock gauges don't flash very often. To be honest it's a bear to read those things and I hardly know the exact readings until I stop. I've never been a fan of the two side deluxe gauge. They are hard to read and harder yet when things vibrate around. I won't miss that blurry bugger. I use the NS1 setup most of the time and just get by when I ride the sleds with stock gauge. I usually set the NS1 early temp warning to start flashing in the mid 150 range. Things were easier with that feature. If I was concerned with early warm temps, I could swap screens and make temp reading easier to see. I don't know much about the new gauge. It would be nice if the G8 has some ability to configure the layout and adjust parameters.

AC5S shock upgrade for new and older Cat's
ZR ski shocks are 1" shorter on Catalyst. The AC5 are spec'd to the Catalyst and any old sled they would fit. The Catalyst skids are amazingly similar to the Procross.
