The plan is to live well, including in retirement. Due to longer life spans than prior generations the biggest risk many American's face is outliving their money. My mom's 71 and generally speaking is of sound mind and body so she can do what she wants. Fortunately she's got enough resources to not worry about money today, or for the rest of her life no matter how long she lives. Pinching pennies in retirement doesn't sound like fun.

The Fed Res TELLS us they want to achieve 2% annual inflation. Over 20 years, at 2% inflation (the Gov's goal), the value of a dollar is cut by nearly 50%. One could build the case that probable inflation will exceed 2% in the coming decades. At 3% over 20 years the value of a dollar is reduced by 80%. It's better to have a little room for error when estimating retirement $$ needs.

I know, it's beyond sensationalist and into full bullshit. Regardless, Amazon has saved (and will continue to save) MANY American's TONS of time.....and said time is one of our most precious assets. So I'd say if anyone is worth billions, it ought to be Bezos.
