Only two chicks survive as colony of 40,000 penguins suffer breeding tragedy

Scientists found thousands of dead or unhatched chicks in East Antarctica, which has been attributed to an unusual amount of sea ice coupled with extensive rain that left the colony of about 18,000 breeding penguin pairs traveling longer distances to find food, and chicks struggling to keep dry and warm.

At the end of story:

climate change as well as fishing and tourism has also had an impact on the Adélie penguins, resulting in decreased populations and the fear of possible extinction according to some researchers, reported The Guardian.

Climate change is increasing sea ice now.

Climate change has to be the perfect scientific theory.   It covers everything from warming to cooling, floods to droughts.   No matter what the change in climate there is one absolute fault.

Yes, the climate is always changing.  Sometimes it warms and sometimes it cools.

I was reading an article the other day where they were all concerned about a few days temps last Nov-Dec.   They were unusually warm yet still WELL below freezing.   They were almost acting as if the ice was melting at this time.

Obviously globull warming deniers hate penguins.

In their defense salt water freezes at a colder temperature and maybe this concern was over water temperatures? :dunno:

Not much open water ever at the locations (80-90 deg) measured.  90 deg being the North Pole.

My point was maybe there was more to their concern than just above average surface air temperatures.

I see your point.   The arctic sea ice is generally thinner than I would have thought.   (6-9' thick is all)

The Arctic Ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarce and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot,

according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from
the Consulate at Bergen Norway.

Reports from fishermen, seal hunters and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of

             temperatures in the Arctic zone.

Exploration expeditions report that hardly any ice has been met as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes.

Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream waters are very warm.

Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while many glaciers have
             disappeared entirely.

Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts which have

never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds.

Within a few years it is predicted that due to the ice meltthe sea will rise and make most coast cities uninhabitable.

                 ************* ****************************** ****************************** ****************************** ****************************** *********************

I neglected to mention that this report was from November 2, 1922 , as reported by the AP and published

in The Washington Post 93 years ago.

This must have been caused by the Model T Ford's emissions or possibly from horse and cattle farts.

Yet further evidence: The high tides and coastal flooding caused by Hawaii’s
King Tide occur regularly every Spring.

The only difference in 2017: It’s Trump’s fault.

Do you know the difference between weather and climate? Do you think climate can be measured because of one cold year or warm year?

Do you know carbon may be about the 30th most impactful aspect of "climate change"?

Ya, we all get that,  we got it long ago.  That doesn't invalidate what is happening now and man's involvement.
