Is all the profit taking now being taken by the hospitals, doctors, and such? If so, i'm afraid all hope is lost on lowering costs for the patient no matter which angle you look at it, other than making everyone pay insurance or they get no care. Does anybody really think this is going to save anybody any money? Premiums are based on local rates/risks/etc... Just because an out of state company is underwriting it why would the costs be any different? And its usually the same companies just in different states. This will force competition no it won't when the cheap areas insurance companies start paying claims in high cost areas they will just raise rates. when i worked for a big company we did all out insurance out of MN because it was cheaper than PA, we had all off 400 employees there and prob 3k in high costs areas on the coasts. needless to say our premiums went up dramatically after a couple of years. this kind of plan may help year 1 or 2 or with select low risk groups of people but overall doesn't attack real issue which is the cost of care not the insurance companies profit skim
