If it is worth more than you owe than that isn't really debt.  Things that appreciate are investments.  Obviously houses can be shitty ones compared to others but calling that debt is more of a stretch.  Stuff others put on credit cards to put in said house are the problem.

and you likely bought one you can actually afford... ? 

we base our household budget on the income of one.

Correct. It's worth 2 or 3 times what we owe even after adding on in '21.

Yes, we bought in '11 so not long after the big foreclosure crunch in 08. We did a similar thing when we bought, I wanted to make sure if worst case scenario and one of us lost pur job we could still afford it.
