US faces most ‘dangerous’ Middle East of Biden’s long career, Blinken says

Again why did Joe take the Houti off the watch list?

Trump added them 1 day before he left office, Biden removed it because it would cut off critical food aid to the country on brink of famine. It’s very similar to Gaza: how do you separate and support the Palestinians without supporting Hamas. Not an easy task.

It’s a fine line you must walk and gets overly politicized when the audience doesn’t understand the full picture.

You can't separate the two. Palestinians voted for Hamas and the same goes for Yemen. When you radicalize your population it has consequences.

No different than with the Palestinian's maybe the Yemeni's should get their house in order.   The idea that they are attacking ships in international waters should be dealt with in a extremely serious manner.

Of course the UN is impotent on this like everything else.

Also where is NATO considering US troops are being attacked and killed?

Yes, wouldn’t that be nice if all the Middle East got their shit together? In the meantime, as you say, we should be dealing with them in a serious manner.

I doubt you’d want that.

I think many in the middle East have selective outrage brought on by an inferiority complex. Hell Bashir Asad killed a million people in his country and you don't see a bunch of Arab hand wringing or crocodile tears but Palestinians who the Arab world doesn't want are all of the sudden sacred?

Neither have resources needed in the region, the UN doesn’t even have an Air Force. I thought you didn’t want the US in NATO, but now you want them funded at an even higher rate so they can police on a more global scale? :dunno:

Absolutely selective. In this case we care because it’s screwing with global shipping lanes.

Do you think we should be bombing them, or do you think we have other options?

I don't want to be in NATO but while we are in it they should back article 5.

https://www.nato.int/cps/en/natohq/topics_110496.htm#:~:text=Article 5 provides that if,to assist the Ally attacked.

Article 5 provides that if a NATO Ally is the victim of an armed attack, each and every other member of the Alliance will consider this act of violence as an armed attack against all members and will take the actions it deems necessary to assist the Ally attacked.

Fund NATO at a higher rate? WTF are you talking about?  NATO is supposed to be funded by its individual members spending 2% of GDP on defense.   That's more than enough.....especially if NATO countries hadn't thrown $200+ billion towards a country that isn't even a member.

For the purpose of Article 5, an armed attack on one or more of the Parties is deemed to include an armed attack:

  • on the territory of any of the Parties in Europe or North America, on the Algerian Departments of France 2, on the territory of Turkey or on the Islands under the jurisdiction of any of the Parties in the North Atlantic area north of the Tropic of Cancer”

So Russia or China could bomb the shit out of any of our bases around the world and NATO can simply say you are on your own?    Who in their right mind would attack a US base in NA?   We really should get the fuck out of NATO if this is the case. :bc:

Article 5, meet article 6.  If you’re advocating in expanding it to a global defense pact, ok.

Again if our bases around the world are not already covered its a worthless organization to be in for us.   The only way anyone attacks us in NA is likely nuclear which is pretty much the end of the world anyways.

We have quite a few, so NATO had better start expanding its global capabilities.  :bc:

Uh huh. It does have consequences. Such as sanctioning almost all of Latin America=refugees. American politicians love to starve out countries and then blame it on the governments of those countries.

If it were not for the Jewish state in the middle East the Middle East would be even more screwed up than it is now. Left to their own devices they would just endless wars.

As opposed to, you know, endless wars.
