Crnr2Crnr
this is why we can't have nice things... decades of D&R spending without the revenue to actually pay for it. thanks Boomers

Divide that by 330 million and it comes out to $17,575 per person in what we are spending. If your family isn't paying that per person in fed taxes (including FICA) you are technically being carried by others. Simple as that. Its a epidemic in America that people claim that the govt needs to collect more revenue when they themselves pay far under that amount. Maybe you aren't one of them and if so congrats on keeping up your end. I think we're trying to skin the same cat... just differently. Maybe if we both start at the head

Sure there are some loopholes that could be closed like carried interest but if we are to believe the IRS data the so called "wealthy" already pay for most of this country....especially as a % of the taxable income. https://taxfoundation.org/data/all/federal/federal-income-tax-data-2021/ https://taxfoundation.org/data/all/federal/summary-latest-federal-income-tax-data-2022-update/ Edited August 31, 2023 by Highmark

Decades of wracking up the credit card.

Agreed but I've stated a number of times that POTUS alone can't really do much especially in the 1st term. 1st they only submit a budget....congress passes it. 2nd nobody has the balls to address mandatory spending. Its a political death sentence. 3rd we've set ourselves up where every congressman(woman) and Senator is looking out for their state. Drives up spending. Sure having both branches of govt helps but too many hands out do do anything serious. So with cuts difficult to impossible that leaves increasing revenue. We could go on forever at the impact of increasing taxes and negative impact on the private sector (Think Laffer curve.) None of which you think probably would happen. Only hope is a POTUS willing to shut down govt for a long period of time or a balanced budget amendment.
