Better electronics and more precision controls have made vehicles more reliable.  As well as more precise manufacturing techniques.  Better lubricants play a big part as well.

Ive put almost 200,000 miles on several vehicles, and over that on some work trucks I’ve owned.  I wouldnt trust many 4 bangers at those ranges, high strung turbo 4 bangers are hard on oil, thats a fact.  And who knows whether an EV battery will last that long and what its going to cost for a replacement.  I wouldnt mind an EV for an extra vehicle, but for my main driver not yet.

Diesels are definitely less reliable due to emissions equipment
