Pete
In 1962 Chevrolet created another 427 but out of the 409. Very special engine with 13:1 compression ratio. 4.88 gears and a 4 speed. Aluminum front end impala SS. GM shut it down after 50 were produced.

Top brass at GM demanded it be removed from public because corporate rule was NO RACING what so ever. Love the cast iron headers. Very cool! The stuff that group did behind the scenes skunkworks type operations right under the executives noses. Just amazing what they did for the racing community even though it was banned and considered taboo. GM was worried the government was going to break them up. Looks like it's possibly a 75. From the photo the removable roof looks like it comes off right to the windshield. 75 was last yr for that. Always liked this old photo my dad took years ago of my two uncles on each side of Uncle Harolds new at the time F100. His boots really set off the look. My other uncle on the left passed away with a 86 F250 in 05, that had about 18,000 miles on it. Unfortunately the frame was gone after those salty northern Maine winters.
