ckf
NASCAR's Daytona 500 ratings drop on Fox by 23 percent Fox’s broadcast of Sunday’s Daytona 500 saw a ratings dip of about 23 percent compared to last year’s broadcast of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series opener. Ratings for the race won by Austin Dillon averaged a 5.1 in metered markets with an 11 share, Fox Sports announced on Monday. Last year’s broadcast had a 6.6 overnight rating with a 15 share. The share estimates the percentage televisions in use tuned to a specific channel. Sunday’s rating is less than half of what NBC pulled in a dozen years ago. NBC scored an 11.3 rating for the 2006 Daytona 500, although that race did serve the lead-in to the Winter Olympics that year. This time, Fox is competing with NBC and its Olympic programming, although none were broadcast live at the time the Daytona 500 took place. Right but as the article said none of what was on during the race was live...there is no denying NASCAR has problems with attendance and viewership.

Personally I think the Fox announcing team sucks, except for Jamie Little They need to clean house and get some non biased announcers, at least put the Waltrips out to pasture.

All of my friends were not able to watch it if they had Spectrum as a cable provider, I guess Spectrum is in a dispute with Fox, so no race for them. I'm not sure if that was local, state wide, or further..So that could have definitely hurt ratings

Jeff is coming around. I was listening to the broadcast booth on my scanner yesterday and Jeff was pretty funny when the commercials were running and he was just talking off the cuff. Starting to see that on air too but I swear they try to get these guys all pumped up and it just comes off as phony. I'm checking some of the pay outs from Daytona. $1,581,000 for Austin Dillion $1,157,000 for Bubba Wallace Justin Marks who started 29th, finished 12th makes $361,953. Amazing run for a field filler team. Mark Thompson, the 66 year old, started dead last and finished 22nd collecting $318,065. He was so slow he couldn't hang on to the draft after 5 laps. He chugged along all day a few laps down but never got collected in an accident, still running at the finish and takes home a nice check......lol 1

Since NASCAR won't release the payouts they based their list on the 2016 Daytona 500 which had 43 cars. edit...that isn't right as there were only 40 cars in 2016 and Hamlin won not Logano like they said. Since its based on a past Daytona pay out I think it has something to do with specific corporate sponsor money. Example: some cars have a deal with Coke and if you do you get some Coke money on top. I remember yeas back that Richard Petty's mother had forbid the family from making money off alcohol so they never had alcohol related products on their cars. No Bud sticker on your fender meant no sponsor money from Bud for a race finish.
