Cloth Mask don’t work

Recommended Posts

A mask mandate could backfire

“The most obvious path to universal masking is to pass laws and punish infractions. But enforcing legal edicts to wear masks in public can be difficult and costly, and amid widespread ambivalence can lead to backlash and even violence. So edicts are not a complete solution.” — Angela Duckworth, Lyle Ungar and Ezekiel J. Emanuel, New York Times

A national mandate won’t increase mask usage

“Even if you mandate and people are mandating them, I don't think it's necessarily going to convince people really or even force people to wear them. We need to convince, as opposed to compel or mandate,” — Health expert Craig Spencer to NBC News

Masks are less important than public debate makes them seem

“I hope that people don't get too distracted by the mask issue alone and let that distract them from being angry at the government for failing to find more testing and tracing so that we can implement a modern public health response. Masks help slow the spread, but a well-funded and coordinated testing strategy is the foundation of that modern response that we know is far more effective even than mask wearing.” — Lindsay Wiley, NPR

Masks can lead to racial profiling

“There’s no doubt at this point that masks keep people safer from COVID-19. But certain types of masks may also be putting young Black men in danger of harassment or profiling.” — Political scientist Marc Hetherington to FiveThirtyEight

Americans have lost faith in their government’s virus response

“I suspect that the days of widespread compliance with do-it-or-else mandates meant to curb COVID-19 are over. Government officials will have to go against their instincts and learn that, instead of commanding, they have to be satisfied with the results of polite requests.” — J.D. Tuccille, Reason

A national mask mandate would be difficult to enforce

“The lack of meaningful early intervention also means that at this point, with the mask wars well underway, any kind of national mask mandate would be a difficult thing to carry out.” — J.C. Pan, New Republic

I think of them like seat belts and helmets.  We know there is a benefit.  You can increase the odds with proper use.

I'm not fan of making them mandatory.

It is a tough call when personal actions affect those around you.  Seat belts and helmets only leave one victim.

Do we need to mandate behavior that might help someone else?  I would hope not, but it appears to be happening.

It's kinda sad.  We have the choice about doing the right thing with the knowledge currently at hand.  Is the knowledge correct?  Maybe, maybe not.  But, we have the choice.  Great news if it is correct knowledge and we played the game.  Life gets back to normal one heck of a lot faster.  The worst thing is looking like dorks with masks and standing apart all the time.  I can live with looking goofy.  I'm already an ugly S.O.B. so I guess I'm not making a big stretch.

I can't even imagine anyone that doesn't want this crap done.  We'll get there a hell of a lot faster if we work together.

Well now that Trump  finally wore one maybe some of his base will follow suit considering he is the one that politicized it in the first place.

Level of Retard on the most idiotic infected country on the planet ? 100%

It's tragically funny how fn stupid the mentality is as this unfolds day after day, fact after fact, case after case, death after death. Cover your fn mouth and nose or you're going to quarantined in your own borders for months and months or years and no President will be able to do anything about it no matter how bad your graveyard smells.

If this is airborne like many professionals, such as WHO, are saying a cloth mask doesn’t do shit against microscopic particles.....  only thing you can do if you are scared is stay hidden and don’t venture out of the confines of your home.  Somebody else wearing a screen door over their face doesn’t protect you from their Covid as it is airborne for hours floating into your respiratory system through your face covering

Wow. Just wow

Walmart says all customers will be required to wear a mask

Walmart will require customers to wear masks in its more than 5,000 stores in an effort to curb the spread of coronavirus, the company announced on Wednesday.

Beginning July 20, customers at the nation's largest retailer is mandating face coverings at all stores, including Sam’s Club. The company will provide complimentary masks for customers who do not have one, or masks can be purchased in the store.

“While we’re certainly not the first business to require face coverings, we know this is a simple step everyone can take for their safety and the safety of others in our facilities,” the company wrote in a joint statement from Walmart Chief Operating Officer Dacona Smith and Sam’s Club Chief Operating Officer Lance De La Rosa.

Walmart joins several national chains in requiring face masks in their retail stores. Costco began requiring its members to wear facial coverings in its warehouses in May. Starbucks begins its face covering mandate this week across its 9,000 locations. Next week, Best Buy will require all of its shoppers to wear face masks.

While there is no nationwide mandate to wear a mask, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has urged people to wear a cloth face covering in public. The measure has shown to help stem the spread of coronavirus, according to an agency study published Tuesday.

But facial coverings have become a lightning rod issue across the country as people have come to see wearing masks as a violation of their constitutional rights. President Donald Trump has repeatedly suggested that people only wear a mask if they choose to do so, even as Dr. Anthony Fauci, the country's leading infectious disease expert and a member of Trump's Coronavirus Task Force, has said not wearing a mask "increases the risk of there being transmissibility" of the virus.

Most major retailers have hesitated to roll out mask mandates in their stores in light of these protests. But attitudes have shifted in recent weeks as new coronavirus infections mount across the country and states scramble to roll back reopenings to mitigate a new wave of the virus. More than 3.4 million Americans have tested positive for the coronavirus and more than 137,000 have died, according to data collected by NBC News.

“We know some people have differing opinions on this topic,” the company said in a press release. “We also recognize the role we can play to help protect the health and well-being of the communities we serve by following the evolving guidance of health officials like the CDC.”

About 65 percent of the company’s fleet of stores and clubs are located in areas where there is some form of government mandate on face coverings, the company said.

The Retail Leaders Industry Association, a retail industry trade group, called on governors last week to pass statewide mandates requiring people to wear masks in public. The United Food and Commercial Workers’ Union, which represents grocery workers, also urged government officials to pass a mandate on face coverings in public this week.
