Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see how he will win in November if he keeps going the way he has been and only appeal to his base. :dunno:

Agreed. Until all of this BS I never looked at Bubba as black. He was just another good driver in subpar equipment. I'm sure that the majority here, and across the country didn't even know that there was a black Nascar driver.

I didn't.   Don't follow it like I use to either.   I could care less what color of a drivers skin is.    When I followed NASCAR I was just as much or more about rooting for the sponsor I like than the driver.   Kind of like having a favorite sports team and not switch up as a player you like is traded or signs with another team.

Yup. I've always kind of rooted for the Chevy teams over the years.

BTW... It's nice to have a discussion with someone in here that doesn't instantly turn to name-calling and the other BS. :bc:

Yeah, I was always a GM man myself.   Been years since I followed it much.   Still have Deere and Kodiac scale model cars.  Got an interesting story on the Deere car.

Agreed on the bold.

Was the Deere car from when Chad Little drove it?

Craven for the Kodiak car? Schrader?

Yes and yes.     Probably was a Schrader fan more than any other driver.

I believe Schrader is still racing on short tracks a lot...speaking of Craven his win at Darlington is still one of the best finishes I’ve seen.

Yes, that was a great finish between Craven & Kurt Busch. I used to hat Kurt until he got kicked to the curb by RP. When he became the underdog I started to like him. Now he is a completely different guy than he was back when he was piloting the 2 car.

Kenny was likely to be the first one to know Dale was killed.   Knowing what we do about how Dale was killed and Ken's instant reaction is all you need to see.

Yeah....never forget it.   The range of emotions from Darrel watching his little brother win to worrying about Dale simultaneously was one of the most heart wrenching things in sports I've ever seen and even then I was just a average NASCAR fan but it was something else.

Yes, he was one of the 1st to know :(  A bit of Nascar dies that day with Senior. As much as I disliked the COT, it was Nascar's attempt to make a safer car.  I don't *think* there has been a death in Cup since the COT  :dunno:

I watched the race latter that night as I always worked weekends back then. Nicole knew Dale had been killed, but didn't tell me. She said it was sad to watch the race with me knowing the outcome.

Like 5 or 6 in other series' but none in the top series.  Sr. was the last one.   Pretty amazing when you think about it.

To bad that it took his death for Nascar to make changes. Kenny Irwin and Adam Petty should have sounded the alarm.

Yeah was watching it live.   Sucked for sure even for a mid level fan like myself.   Some of my buddies were HUGE NASCAR fans.   Weekly pools, race parties and go to a race or two every year.   One business man in my community was a pretty big sponsor and went to every single race in his motor-home.

I was a big Senior fan at the time. He drove a black Monte Carlo SS, I had a black SS. No aeroback for me though, lol. I still love the lines of the mid to late 80's Monte Carlo SS's.  Way to heavy for the motor, but looked sharp all cleaned up in black.

Nice!   Both my brothers had mid 80's Monte Carlo's.   I was a bit more of Cutlass fan but they were sweet (not that there was much difference.)   One of my bothers MC was still the best looking mid 80's one I've ever seen.   Two tone bronze and brown with T-Tops and Keystone Classic wheels and uniroyal wl tires.   Fucking thing was sweet.

People often forget the non race fatalities as well.   Some pretty big names.   Had a few buddies that were DIE HARD Davey Allison fans.    Bet most wouldn't realize a short time star of the 80's passed away from AIDS.

Davey Allison was a star and there was no telling how many championships he would have  won. Tim Richmond was pure talent AND liked to party some. Back to Dale Sr. , Schrader and Junior...pretty sure that it was Schrader and a few others that sat Junior down and convinced him to wear a full face helmet and HANS device after his dads death.

It really did...he transcended the sport and embodied the hard working pay your dues take no shit SOB and people loved it. The flip side is that he was unbelievably generous and giving but never made a big deal about it.
