Back to work! lol The main reason for buying an XR4 was to get the optional small diamiter gearcase. The irony of course is that the small case did not work well on the bass boats of the time. Knock on wood my 150 regular black max revved high and ran well no issues other than a stator and maintenance items. It has the snot ran out of it for years and worked well even with out removing the oil injection tho that seems more common in the Gen 1 vro omc motors. A friend of mine bought a brand new 2.0 150 Merc back in 1987 to use the powerhead on a st120 class race boat. The ST 120 class was the same boat as the champ boats just with a stock motor. He ran it for 6 years without having to open the case or even take off the heads. Pretty common for those engines to spin 8k or above on the straights. After 6 years he pulled the powerhead off the race boat and put it back on the original mid section which had never been out of the crate. I,ve got a Volvo Penta SX outdrive on my mint condition 96 U-17. It works awesome. The only thing I don,t like about it is the clunk when I put it into gear. I kinda wish it would go in smother, without the clunk. I use synthetic oil in the outdrive.
