You’re confusing the public hearings and the actual sentencing in a court of law.

Who?!? 950 have been convicted, 450 have pled guilty. I doubt many if any are sitting in jail awaiting trial. The only ones sitting in jail are the ones who’ve already been sentenced. And yeah, that’s a pretty damn good time to tell your side of the story when you’re sitting in front of a judge trying to explain why you were there. And of course it’s public record, so what other part of the story do you want to know?
