  1. BTW - I live in Mendon, work in Westboro. I think next year is going to be a lot worse.
  2. I live south of Worcester, and I agree with this post. Bad in some areas, not so much in others. They cleaned an apple tree in my yard t the bones. Near my office, there are thousands of moths around right now, Oak trees seem to be their favorites. Some areas look like November.
  3. Two in the morning, one mid-afternoon.
  4. I think we are quite a ways off from this technology being real. Even if they do figure out how to keep the cars on the road during 'normal' circumstances, what do you think will happen in a heavy rainstorm? How about when the roads are icy, will it know enough to slow down, and allow extra braking distance (I know half the human drivers don't). I don't see the insurance companies being too happy, will be interested to see who goes after Telsa on this one. Once the car company gets sued, there will be giant warnings when you start up saying you need to be in the drivers seat, alert, ready to take over at any moment, and that the car is not responsible if there is a crash, the driver is. At that point, why bother?
  5. I would surely get some training before I would carry on a regular basis, and agree that the course is not intended to include everything that you need to know. But, there are people who simply do the basic course, get a permit, go buy a weapon, ammo and holster - clip it on, and they are good to go. I think that is a bit scary, leaves too much chance for a mistake. When I took the course, It did seem to me that a revolver would be my first choice. Old school I know, but I think it's easier to know when it is or is not loaded. I seem to read about too many accidents where someone didn't know there was a bullet in the chamber with disastrous results. As I said, for me, I don't have a strong desire to own one, and don't have any plans to move ahead anytime soon. Don't have a problem with anyone who does, as long as they know what they are doing.
  6. I would get with a local range and get some practice and more training before I would purchase anything. Not in a particular rush, I have never felt that it is something I need to have, or really want to have in the house. Nothing against those who do, it's just my choice. I live in MA, and know of places where I could get some training and experience if I choose to. My point really is that I believe the training was inadequate in my case, and that others with the same level of training are getting permits, buying weapons, and carrying them. Not sure how that ia safer than not having anything when you look it on balance. I am sure that some courses are excellent.
  7. My wife was talking seriously about getting an handgun. Many family members carry. I have never felt the need, and just not bothered. She took a course, so I figured if she was serious about it, I should take one as well, get the permit, and some knowledge if there was going to be a gun in the house. Went to a course offered one evening by a local cop. Talked about different types of handguns, some about rifles, safety subjects and the like. Passed around some 'practice guns (orange tips), and passed out cetificates. I never held a loaded weapon, or shot one, but jeld a certificate that I could take to get a permit. I don't think I got nearly enough knowledge to be able to go buy one and take it home, never took it any farther. My Brother-in-law and nephew were there with me, they got permits, bought guns, and I know my nephew carries. Neither has ever fired them. The whole thing makes me very uncomfortable, strikes me as an accident waiting to happen. They feel like they are safer with it on their hip, my guess is that it is just the opposite.
  8. We let our kids go in the water there on a trip about 20 years ago. Didn't notice the no swimming signs until the next day. Talked about that just this morning. We were probably very lucky that day, although it was daytime. I have an aunt who lives near Tampa. There is a drainage pool behind her house, she sees gators nearly every day. One only has three legs, they call him Peg Leg Pete.Has trouble getting around, but I would not challenge him to a race. They are common in Florida, anywhere there is water, which is pretty much everywhere. If a family from Florida went on vacation in Nebraska (I know, not likely), and let their kid play near the edge of the woods, and got picked off by a Mountain Lion, would we be more or less surprised? People do stuff without thinking, I feel incredibly bad for them, they will carry this for the rest of their lives, but I'm not sure anyone can blame Disney, or the parents at this point.
  9. Hang on a minute - I NEVER said that abortions should never happen. I said that it's a shame that the desires of the baby are not considered, and that I wish that people (not only mothers) would take more responsibility with birth control methods. Also said that calling this a Womens Health issue is wrong, that's not what is is. What is your problem???
  10. I particularly like 'Woman's Health' as a reason. Rarely (very) is an abortion needed for a woman's health (and I am inclined to be OK with it in the event that it really does threaten a woman's health). Interesting term for something that has little to do with health, women have been having babies for thousands of years.
  11. Well, I guess I do. If it is a person after 4 months (16 weeks), and it is after 14 weeks, and after 13 weeks, why not after 12 11, or 10? How do we know when it's OK?
  12. She will have to after the conventions. For now, these guys can both gain with a debate.
  13. That's not the point. Trump and Bernie will both give it to Hillary for 2 hours, they both win, Hillary loses.
  14. The problem with this part is the fact that there is a third person involved, who doesn't seem to have a say, but if they did have a say, my bet is that in most every case they would choose to be born. This is what makes the subject so complex and difficult, and NEVER should be left out of the conversation. That is not to say that I think it should never happen, and I agree that the woman should have some right to choose. I just wish that they would exercise that right more often by using birth control BEFORE they get pregnant.

Remember, that there is a difference between Fool Proof and Idiot Proof. The second one is much more difficult to achieve.
  16. He should pick Mike Rowe. Guy seems to have more common sense than anyone in Washington.
  17. Said it on the old site, will repeat it here: It's too bad that the best candidates that our system can come up with is these to Bozos. I hope they pass out clothespins for our noses along with the ballots in November. I think Trump might just take it. Don't think he will be a great president, likely only one term (probably same for HC too). I do like the fact that he is an outsider, and unafraid to speak his mind (probably can't stop himself, to be fair). He doesn't owe anyone anything, and I think if he wants to do something, and gets crap from congress, he will just call a presser, and name names. That might just turn things upside down, and break the deadlock that has stopped and real progress in congress, which would be the best thing that can come out of all of this. Fact is, he won't be able to do a number of the things he talks about, he is running for president, not king.
