Why govern the car ...... Take a smarter approach from the land that invented the super highway . The Autobahn has a variable speed limit, ... traffic conditions, weather, , accidents..... It's all constantly being scanned... over head signs warn drivers of problems & adjust speed limits to safety adjust for changes.

Yep.  If you slow down to say 55 the vehicle will emit less co2 then a vehicle at 80 cause it is burning less gas per mile.  They put speed limiters in cars they can control emissions in greater and desired amounts.  Easier to do then go all EV transportation in the near term.

Of course it will emit less. But to travel the same distance it will emit less for a longer time.

A gallon of gas has 19.42 produced when burned.  It’s on the epa window sticker and tells you how much the vehicle emits per mile.  A 40 mpg vehicle will emit half the co2 per mile then a vehicle that gets 20 mpg.  Just fact that there is an exact known quantity of co2 emitted from a gallon of gas when burned.

You slow down say to 55 a vehicle will get better mpg then at 80 therefore with the better mpg of speed limit the less fuel burned which equals less co2?

A vehicle running at 40 mph will burn a certtain amount of fuel to go 40 miles and will take 1 hr to do it. Obviously burning fuel the entire time.

there is nothing to prove in common sense.  If you limit vehicle speed to 55-60 it will produce less co2 on the highway

Same truck running 40 mph will run in 7th or 8th gear running about 1650 -1700 rpm. 

Obviously it will burn more fuel at 1900 rpm then at 1650 rpm. But it will burn more fuel for only 1/2 as much time as the it would be burning fuel to travel the same distance.

Yes it is better at 60 then 80, but will burn fuel ( even at a better milage) for a longer period of time then the vehicle traveling at 80.

The one that burned 4 created 77.68 lbs of co2.  The one that burned 3 gallons created 58.26 lbs of co2.  Now you know why they may limit vehicle ice vehicle speed.  Easy reduction attainable in ghg emissions.
