Gold Member BOHICA Posted November 15, 2023 Gold Member Share Posted November 15, 2023 Michigan becomes the 12th state to pass legislation requiring 100% clean energy. The legislation passed by the Michigan House and Senate, which will imminently be signed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI), is known as the Clean Energy Future Plan. It will require Michigan utilities to source 15% of electricity from clean energy sources such as wind or solar through 2029. That requirement will then increase to 50% by 2030, 60% by 2035, and 100% by 2040. https://electrek.co/2023/11/15/michigan-100-percent-clean-electricity-by-2040-law/

Current coal and NG power plants are basically already paid for. Yes of course they have fuel input costs but I don't care. It will be at the expense of consumers. Windmills cost around $1M per MW. But, frankly it is getting old. Michigan is a joke. Ask Jenny Granholm, she still laughing. Edited November 15, 2023 by Cold War
Gold Member BOHICA Posted November 15, 2023 Author Gold Member Share Posted November 15, 2023 Amazon is entering the Michigan solar farming business. Amazon, the world-famous online retailer, has announced its first renewable energy project in Michigan: a new 85-megawatt solar farm to be built in Van Buren County’sLawrence Township, the company said on Monday, Nov. 13. The Southwest Michigan solar project will help power Amazon’s local operations, including Amazon fulfilment centers, sorting centers and delivery stations, while also providing new sources of clean power to local communities where the projects are located, the Seattle-based company said in a news release. https://www.mlive.com/news/kalamazoo/2023/11/amazon-announces-its-first-michigan-solar-farm-project.html?outputType=amp

Gold Member BOHICA Posted November 15, 2023 Author Gold Member Share Posted November 15, 2023 Looks like the state of Michigan will decide where to put solar farms and not leave it up to the local governments. https://www.bridgemi.com/michigan-environment-watch/michigan-senate-votes-override-local-decisions-wind-solar-energy?amp Michigan lawmakers approved another major change to the state’s energy policy on Wednesday, passing a two-bill package that would let state regulators override local decisions about where to allow large-scale wind and solar arrays. The bills, which pitted environmentalists against local government advocates, passed narrowly along party lines, 20 to 18, with unanimous support from the Senate Democratic majority. The measures will soon head to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s desk, where she is expected to sign them.
