Why U.S. teens aren't getting their driver's licenses

Recommended Posts

I had a young engineer working for me a few years ago.

Just graduated college, had never drove a single thing in his life.

Ever.

Fucking ever.

He takes a job in a far outer ring town of the Shitties, lived in the south part of them with his parents.

3 hour public transit commute each way.

He'd ride his bike to the bus.

Take the bus to the Light Rail.

Take the mobile homeless shelter to the Northstar.

Take the Northstar to town.

Ride his bike clear across town and to work, (rain, snow, hail, sun, anything).

Sleep at work and reverse the process.

He'd show up "late" because the Northstar only stopped twice in the morning.

He'd leave early because it only stopped once in the afternoon.

There were many times he'd have to catch a ride from a co-worker back to the Cities so he could jump on something there.

He told one of the engineers he never indents to drive anything, ever, as it is a waste of his time.

I'm pretty sure he was scared shitless.

We encouraged him to rejoin the job hunt and something more public transit friendly.

Scratch that, I don't want to assume their chosen identity...
