For those that want to pay out the ass for energy and those with deeps pockets in Georgia.  34 billion in just construction cost….  Never mind fuel, waste disposal, and maintenance cost.  Only produces enough electricity for 500,000 homes

https://oilprice.com/Alternative-Energy/Nuclear-Power/Six-Years-Late-And-250-Over-Budget-Georgias-Newest-Nuclear-Plant.amp.html

“We see a fourteen-year construction project at an astounding $15,500 per kilowatt. It isn’t even controversial to say this technology is deader than a proverbial doornail in the US. What’s more important is that the small modular reactor business has made many of the same claims (factory built, short construction times, smaller physical footprint), all of which deserve increasing scrutiny.

But the key energy statistic of the week was from Europe where last year they spent about $40 billion to add 26,000 MWs of renewables. In the US we’re spending $34 billion for 2200 MWs. That makes Vogtle ten times as expensive, on a MW basis, as the European alternatives. Even after adjusting for the fact that renewables only produce about one third of the time, compared to 90% of the time for a well-run nuke, Vogtle looks expensive.”

You will never in your life have the ability to keep the counterys grid going 247 364 on unicorn facts and rainbow.  There will always be nuclear or gas or incinerator plants keeping the grid opperationg . Just a reality

They kept the lights in Florida during hurricanes with “Unicorn Farts and Rainbows” in developments that were in the direct path of an unprecedented storm.

thermal sources of generation are just getting overly expensive to stay feasible

$15,500 per kw in just construction cost is astronomical amount.  That is before it even produces any electricity.  Now add fuel cost, toxic waste disposal cost and maintenance to the plant as well as delivery charges the consumer has to pay just to get the electricity to where they need it.  Calculate in company profits as well and you have a big fucking delivered to the people

Lol so at midnight when the wind is low the grid will e good to go

And again you keep avoiding all the others who were not underwater like your example who also own there own power sources.

Fusion 900s are the best I tell you the best

If nuke power had as much $ backing as solar and wind the last 20 years it would be a lot cheaper!!

Too bad it hasn’t had more support.be a great backup too solar and wind.

Batteries are the best backup on microgrids.  Works very well according to the latest hurricane results.  Large Central sources of generation don’t fair well during natural disasters

No kidding. Since its inception, Nuclear power has been vilified and all with fake, uneducated views and talking points. So many sheep out there that don't have a effing clue but are real quick to hop on the bandwagon of the latest SJW movement. :news:

😂.
The government funded the the entire development of nuclear power….  Without massive government subsidies nuclear power wouldnt exist and the new Georgia reactors that cost $34 billion to build to power only 500,000 homes wouldnt exist without massive government subsidies.  Government money is what keeps the nuke power plants operational.  Government money is what takes care of the forever deadly and toxic waste that is generated.

And government doesn’t pay for wind and solar?take a look at Babcock ranch in Florida.

sure it was completely powered by solar but look at panel foot print just to power that neighborhood.now imagine what it would take to power let’s say L.a!!

We need more than just solar and wind.
