Firing the patriots at ballistic missles is like having a bukakke party where the woman is across the room. Takes alot of shots to hit the target. Thaad is suppose to be a touch different, alot more accurate, but never tested in the real world yet. Korea would be the perfect testing ground and if it worked it would put several countries on notice that they wouldnt have a shot in hell at getting an ICBM into US territories if they chose to develop them with the intentions of using them on the US or allies. It would essentially let NK, Iran and such that it wouldn't matter if they had nukes on ICBM's and were really pissed at the US. They would essentially make that arsenal worthless.
