But it effects rates.   The idea was to get MORE young healthy people paying into the system.....not less.  Kids can stay on a parents plan for less than buying their own especially when you are talking multiple kids.

Someone is paying for them to be on it.

Yes but if most family plans are like mine rates don't change for the amount of children you have.  Single plan, married plan, married with children plan.  Many people will have multiple kids that stay on the plan who could be purchasing their own.

IMHO 26 seems a bit old to stay on a parents plan.

In the end its the cost of care.   Insurance and drugs are not what is making our HCI so expensive.   Sure it contributes but quite small in comparison to the delivery of care.  We put people under the knife for everything these days.   We over medicate a small % of our population.  20% of the population is getting a huge % of the care and everyone else is picking up the tab.

Correct.   The only way NHC or UHC does is by rationing care or the pay of who administer it.

Both mine and my wife's parents are elderly with health problems. So we see first hand how the networks cash in on the medicare and insurance. My wife got lyme a few years back and is now dealing with the autoimmune disease that follows. Her own GP told her his hands are tied as far as what he can prescribe for her because he has to run her thru their network and all of their specialists. He cant send her to where she would get the best treatment. There is a lot of waste and redundancy in our health care system. a universal guideline would work better overall IMO. Thats just one instance but there are lots of people who are suffering from all kinds of ills who are tied to their networks and not getting the treatment they really need.

Personally i think this is where a universal program would work but it would have to be patient based with the overall benefit to the PATIENT and the the network providers. However I am skeptical that our govt would provide that in a universal plan. Because politcians are in the pockets of the various lobbies. In the mean time we will continue to get fucked.

I'm sure all of what you are saying happens and more but not much of fixing that would lead to decreased cost.   If anything it will lead to higher costs as the "network" acts on its own to ration care.  My understanding is Lyme can be awful and I'm very sorry to hear she is dealing with it.   I'd be paying out of pocket if I had to to get her the correct care.

No question what is available for network care should be taken into consideration when choosing a plan.

I was just using that as an example, I have plenty more but dont feel like boring the fuck out of everybody. We actually found a doctor who specializes in her condition and I am paying for her treatment out of pocket because insurance doesnt cover this kind of treatment. All of the lab work, special diet now and about $300 - $600 a month in supplements. She just started so we will see how it goes.

I've had Lyme's for 21 years, it's no picnic, ruining my heart now.

The rheumatoid arthritis is a mother. Do you have any of that?

That is until you reach 65. Seniors can participate in the Ontario Drug Benefit program where you pay I believe it is the first $200 a year.

US has the same thing Medicare :)

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your wife with this.  Same to you XCR.   That disease sucks.   Know a guy who dealt with it on a hunting forum.   Really sucks.

Fact is by far and away we have to attack the cost of care but because of what it involves both sides run from it like the plague.  When the time comes if it ever does in the US for serious discussions around UHC then cost controls in the delivery of care has to be discussed up front with the American people.  This is too serious of issue to just say well we have to pass it so you can see what's in it.
