Rod
Looks like they likely kept getting smoked over the period of a few thousand years and looking more and more like this isn’t as rare as you’d think
irv
Less than 10% of the oceans have been explored, mapped and documented. Lots down there that we don't know about. Just think how many volcanoes and other natural, methane, oil and other nasty seeps that are spewing into the air 24/7 that scientists don't know about. Researchers say they have found more than 500 bubbling methane vents on the seafloor off the US east coast. The unexpected discovery indicates there are large volumes of the gas contained in a type of sludgy ice called methane hydrate.Aug 24, 2014 https://marine.unh.edu/spotlight/acoustic-mapping-methane-gas-seeps https://response.restoration.noaa.gov/oil-and-chemical-spills/oil-spills/resources/what-are-natural-oil-seeps.html

Rod
There were some volcanic lakes somewhere that once in a while would belch large amounts of c02 out and kill a lot of people in the sleep. the locals called it evil spirits but the evil spirits would only kill the people that lived on the lower grounds as time passes people would forget the stories were actually true then move back into the area. Then bam it would happen again
