The results of several double blind studies are quite revealing. Comparisons of dextromethorphan and mucinex showed no benefit to soothing cough or thinning mucus. It's been repeated over and over. In fact, dextromethorphan increased bacterial culture growth in Petri dish analysis. The best cough medicine available other than for infants is honey. Study after study it comes out on top.
