Platinum Contributing Member steve from amherst Posted February 19, 2020 Platinum Contributing Member Share Posted February 19, 2020 NORTH TWIN LAKE (WGME) – A father and daughter from Connecticut are recovering after falling through the ice on a lake in northern Maine. The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife says a 53-year-old man and his 16-year-old daughter were riding snowmobiles on North Twin Lake, when they broke through thin ice around 7 p.m. Monday. Officials say they managed to get themselves out of the water and call 911 while wearing full riding gear and helmets. The two people were taken to Millinocket Regional Hospital by ambulance, where they were treated for mild hypothermia. Both have been released from the hospital. The two snowmobiles, a 2015 Polaris 600 and a 2009 Ski-Doo 600, remained at the bottom of the lake, in about 25 feet of water. Game wardens are on scene to plan the removal of the snowmobiles. Too many warm/cold cycles to trust any of it, imo.
Angry ginger
usually ice is pretty solid up that way. not all that familiar with that lake but like most there are prob thin spots. I've been across it but using the stake line shore to shore.
GGNHL
They went through in a spot that isn't safe no matter the year, really should know the body of water you are trying to cross or stay off. We ran our groomer down the lake last weekend for the first time on over 20 inches and we're south of there by 50 miles.
