Platinum Contributing Member Highmark Posted August 8, 2018 Platinum Contributing Member Share Posted August 8, 2018 I'm sure its in the fine print that you surrender some rights when you do one of these DNA tests but now that LE is approaching these sites to solve crimes what does everyone think? In the Golden State Killer case they went to a Genealogy site with the killers DNA and the site provided "relatives" for them to start honing in on a suspect. Should this be allowed without a warrant for a specific person or should a general warrant allow them to look at everyone in the database? Of course if the fine print allows it then there is nothing one can do but I'm not sure I agree on them just matching up with no warrant specifically targeting someone. SSFB
Is the Genealogy company providing all of this information voluntarily? If they are then there's not much more to be said. I'm sure the Terms of Service state that you forfeit ownership rights of your DNA once they have it.

Momorider
Cops have taken DNA from discarded coffee cups and gum etc.. to catch criminals historically and never needed warrants it's evidence
