The eight our day is still based largely on human manufacturing abilities. Diminishing production returns for the average worker start around the six hour mark and reach a point of errors at nine.  Obviously the scope of the work plays the largest role as to who can do what for how long.  More efficient and “cognitively sound” people can work longer hours and still be productive.  But pay rates don’t keep enough of those in production roles.   “ ...only as strong as the weakest link”.

I’ve always been a a fan of getting in the most hours in the shortest time.  Way back in the day, I got to work a 3/12.  Loved it, but it was short lived.

That's one of the reasons we never take lunch until 1 or after. Always get more work done before lunch then after. The other obvious reason is lunch joints are not as busy after 1.
