Death by gun: Top 20 states with highest rates

Recommended Posts

Detroit is claiming a 50 year low for 2017.   Couldn't find one man on the street to agree.

Maybe,  Detroiters can take a  bullet better than the rest of the country or we are shitty shots.

Death by gun.   How about posting murder by gun?  :pc:

Take out suicides and the list would be quite different.

Even more so you need to look at cities or pockets of portions of the states.

Take Iowa for example.  Murders in small, rural, mostly conservative (Red) parts of the state hardly exist.   Virtually all murders occur in the larger "cities" that historically are very Blue.  My guess is the same for virtually every state.

Suicides don’t count as gun deaths. Weird. And very convenient.

Yes they do.   Where did you ever come up with they don't?  There are around 33,000 "gun deaths" in the US per year of which over 20,000 are suicide.   Your article is from 2013 and matches the numbers below.

Now take out some major cities or drug violence and our murder rate by gun is extremely low.

Availability of guns allows suicide to be more prevalent. The financial and emotional impact of suicide is no different than a murder. Removing suicide from the gun violence equation is a tactic the NRA uses. How convenient it is to dismiss 2/3rds of all gun violence for political reasons.

California and New York have some of lowest murder rates. Less than Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

You’re the one that wants to dismiss suicide, gang, and drug related gun violence. Not me. I think the total stats should be used to show that the easy availability of firearms in American society is a major contributing factor. The other, larger price are non-fatal gunshots. Huge medical expenses.

Firearm deaths per capita, ya cunt. Jesus Christ. Do you even read links? This is your odds of being shot and killed per 100,000 people.

Let’s cherry pick the stats so guns don’t appear to contribute to violence and California and New York are horrible and dangerous.

So, what is the exact point you are trying to make?  You started by saying all RED STATES.  What are you implying?

Here is the complete list of the cities, along with each city's homicide numbers:

1. Chicago: 500 Murders

2. New York City: 419 Murders

3. Detroit: 386 Murders

4. Philadelphia: 331 Murders

5. Los Angeles: 299 Murders

6. Baltimore: 219 Murders

7. Houston: 217 Murders

8. New Orleans: 193 Murders

9. Dallas: 154 murders

10. Memphis: 133 murders

11. Oakland: 126 murders

12. Phoenix: 124 murders

13. St. Louis: 113 murders

14. Kansas City: 105 murders

15. Indianapolis: 101 Murders

Chicago's rate is 17 though, so it doesn't make the top 10.  It's actually #24.

When something flies in the face of your personal narrative, you change the construct of the issue. You do ii frequently. As well as cherry picking statistics.

And you somehow think that suicide should be included in that?   maybe a botched suicide that happens to take you out as a bystander?
