  1. Tearful WWII vet says on his 100th birthday that current state of America is 'not what they died for' Ryan General Tue, July 5, 2022 at 2:02 PM A U.S. veteran who saw action in World War II lamented the current state of the country while celebrating his 100th birthday. Carl Spurlin Dekel, who spent his special day on June 29 with friends and family, broke down in tears as he told Fox13 in an interview shared the day after that his fellow soldiers did not die in the war for what America has now purportedly become. “People don’t realize what they have… the things we did and the things we fought for and the boys that died for it, it’s all gone down the drain. Our country is going to hell in a handbasket,” Dekel said. According to the Silver Star recipient, he has lived a good life, attributing his longevity, happiness and good health to his appreciation for the small things. “I sincerely believe in this whole world, that everything is beautiful,” he shared. “If I wake up in the morning and see these plants out here… and all those flowers that are in there, and the green grass on the ground, that’s beautiful.” While the native of Lakeland, Florida, takes pride in all the awards and recognition he has received, his memories of his friends in the Marines who he lost in the war bring him to tears. “We haven’t got the country we had when I was raised, not at all,” Dekel claimed. “Nobody will have the fun I had. Nobody will have the opportunity I had. It’s just not the same. And that’s not what our boys, that’s not what they died for.” While Dekel did not go into details, his dissatisfaction with the country’s current state reflects the views of the majority of the population based on a survey by Pew Research Center published in January. The study reveals that 21 percent of Americans are satisfied with “the way things are going in the country today,” while 78 percent feel dissatisfied. The study also noted that the majority of the public view the country’s current economic situation in a negative light. “I want the young kids to realize that freedom comes with a heavy price,” Dekle said in an interview with Plant City Courier & Tribune in 2009. “It isn’t given to people out of the goodness of others. It’s something you have to fight and sometimes die for.”
  2. Perhaps our younger generation is beginning to think a little. 😊 Recently, while I was working in the flower beds in the front yard, my neighbors stopped to chat as they returned home from walking their dog. During our friendly conversation, I asked their little girl what she wanted to be when she grew up. She said she wanted to be President someday. Both of her parents, Democratic Party members, were standing there so I asked her, "If you were President what would be the first thing you would do?" She replied, "I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people." Her parents beamed with pride! "Wow! What a worthy goal! But you don't have to wait until you're President to do that!" "What do you mean?" she replied. So, I told her, "You can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull weeds, and trim my hedge, and I'll pay you $50. Then you can go over to the grocery store where that homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house." She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, "Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50?" I said, "Welcome to the Republican Party." Her parents aren't speaking to me anymore.

  6. Tampa Bay Times, St. Petersburg, Fla. 99% of Florida residents at ‘high’ risk of COVID-19 Ian Hodgson, Tampa Bay Times Sat, July 2, 2022 at 4:00 AM Florida’s COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations remained stable at “high” levels for the third week in a row. The state recorded 10,640 cases each day last week, on average. By Friday, Florida hospitals had 3,457 confirmed COVID-19 patients, up 4% from the week before. Test positivity hit 22.7% in the past week, the highest rate since January. Cases and hospitalizations were high enough to put 99% of residents at “high” risk according to federal data released Thursday. That includes the entire Tampa Bay area. Health officials suggest that residents in “high” level counties wear a well-fitting mask in public indoor settings, regardless of health. Residents who are symptomatic should get tested immediately. Florida health officials may have blocked an estimated 33,000 disadvantaged children from getting the COVID-19 vaccine, Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo told a congressional subcommittee Tuesday. Many disadvantaged children in the state rely on their county health department for primary care, including vaccinations. However, the Florida Department of Health blocked counties from ordering doses of the newly approved vaccine for children aged 4 and under. Ladapo reiterated the state’s guidance that healthy children under 16 are “at little to no risk of severe illness complications from COVID-19. Florida’s view conflicts with recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Overall numbers 74,481: Number of cases reported in Florida over the most recent seven-day period from June 25 - July 1. 10,640: Average cases a day during that time period last week, essentially even with the week before. 6,493,975: Total number of cases recorded in Florida. 400: Number of deaths reported in the past week. 75,891: Total pandemic deaths in Florida. Vaccinations 29,262: Vaccinations (first or second doses) administered in the past week, up 4% compared to the previous week. 80%: Total Florida population that is at least partially vaccinated. 67%: Total Florida population that is fully vaccinated. 78%: Total U.S. population that is at least partially vaccinated. 67%: Total U.S. population that is fully vaccinated. 35,599: Booster doses administered in Florida in the last week, up 74% compared to the prior week. 27%: Total Florida population that is boosted. 31%: Total U.S. population that is boosted. Positivity rates 22.7%: Florida, compared to 21.6% the previous week. Hospitalizations 3,457: Florida hospitalizations, a 4% increase compared to the prior week. • • • How to get tested Florida: The Department of Health has a list of test sites. Over 70 Percent of Americans Don’t Want Biden to Seek a Second Term: Poll Brittany Bernstein Sat, July 2, 2022 at 11:16 AM Joe Biden 46th president of the United States since 2021 A new Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey found that 71 percent of Americans do not want President Biden to seek reelection. Just 29 percent of respondents said they believe Biden should run, according to the poll that was conducted on June 28 and 29. Of those who said Biden should not run for a second-term, 45 percent said it was because he is a bad president, 30 percent said he is too old and about one-quarter said it is time for a change. Just 30 percent of Democrats said they would vote for Biden in a Democratic presidential primary. Biden’s overall approval rating remained low, at just 38 percent. Just 28 percent approved of his handling of inflation and just 32 percent said he was doing a good job on the economy. Great for older seniors -- especially the rule following the 12th Commandment. That's an absolute fact. TWELVE COMMANDMENTS FOR SENIORS: #1 - Talk to yourself. There are times you need expert advice #2 - “In Style” are the clothes that still fit. #3 - You don't need anger management. You need people to stop pissing you off. #4 - Your people skills are just fine. It's your tolerance for idiots that needs work. #5 - The biggest lie you tell yourself is, “I don't need to write that down. I'll remember it.” #6 - “On time” is when you get there. #7 - Even duct tape can't fix stupid, but it sure does muffle the sound. #8 - It would be wonderful if we could put ourselves in the dryer for ten minutes, then come out wrinkle-free and three sizes smaller. #9 - Lately, you've noticed people your age are so much older than you. #10 - Growing old should have taken longer. #11 - Aging has slowed you down, but it hasn't shut you up. #12 - You still haven't learned to act your age and hope you never will. . . . And one more: “One for the road” means peeing before you leave the house.
