  3. Biden has done nothing for black voters. Trump has Adam Coleman/Brynn Anderson /AP Wed, March 13, 2024 at 4:08 AM CDT·4 min read Joe Biden is a disappointing president - Brynn Anderson /AP Projection is a frequent activity practiced by individuals in politics who are so socially unaware that they can’t see their reflection of irony in their accusations. The Democratic Party has devolved into becoming the very monster they claimed was on the other side of the political aisle and have abstained from standing in front of a mirror to see how ugly they’ve become. Partisan left-wing politicians and members of the media have worked tirelessly to paint the Republican Party, Donald Trump and anyone that even tacitly supports them as unabashed racists and elitists who want nothing more to view the downfall of minorities: And for many years, I mistakenly believed this to be true. However, I could not remain in a state of cognitive dissonance as I watched my former party promote Joe Biden even after he racialised supporting him as being “black” and fought to defund and demoralise the police in cities where black residents desperately wanted them. The Democratic Party that I used to support at least pretended to be the big tent political party that wanted what’s best for all Americans of all races and classes. But it’s clear to me now that this version of a classically liberal Democratic Party was murdered by wealthy leftist monsters who wear the carcass of liberalism like a skinsuit and the moderates that remain hide in the basement along with their principles praying that the monster doesn’t find them together. Many of the former Blue Dog Democrats act as if they have Stockholm syndrome and have adopted a political kinship with a faction that despises their existence. They are effectively being held hostage to a fringe ideological base that represents the interests of the upper class and has framed any commonsense concerns surrounding the prosperity of working-class Americans as being motivated by “white supremacy”, even if it comes from a black person like me. Biden and other prominent Democrats have used black Americans and other minorities as political footballs they can toss from topic to topic to leverage the guilt of the American public and distract them from toppling our economic structure’s status quo favorability for the people who reside at the top of it. The Democrats are losing support from black people like me because we are aware of how we are being weaponised for their political gain and are given worthless symbols and shoutouts to satiate their saviorism. They’ve molded our likeness into an axe that they can wield to divide us by race, forcing us to consider not accepting each other despite our superficial differences. Worse, they hand this weaponry over to people who happen to look like me yet own residency in the most economically privileged parts of America to give the illusion of widespread racial representation and slaughter concepts like colorblindness to prevent me from clearly seeing how my economic strife is similarly shared by my white brethren. The allure for many long time Democrats to abandon the party they’re familiar with and find refuge with Trump and the Republicans has less to do with what the political right has to offer but more to do with what the political left fails to provide. You cannot claim to be a big tent party that cares for everyone equally when you give the poor and working-class breadcrumbs and hand over to the elite the rest of the loaf. We are not given equal treatment when you say that small businesses must sacrifice and lockdown to stop the spread but big box chains and corporate conglomerates like Walmart, Target and Amazon can operate with impunity: One party was in full support of this upward transfer of wealth. There is only one party that enables criminals to run amok in poor minority communities with relaxed penalties and immediate release while preserving the safety of those who live in gated communities and plush suburbs. Donald Trump and the Republicans are far from perfect but at least they are recognising the turmoil that is happening for a class of people who have witnessed their jobs being shipped overseas, small businesses crushed by global corporate interests, and helplessly watch as their community’s hope for future prosperity is replaced with fentanyl. Trump has tapped into the population of people who supported Obama’s “Hope and Change” and were dismayed when it immediately transformed into “Business as Usual”. The Democrats have stared into the abyss, and it stared back at them: they’ve become what they’ve long claimed to hate.

China's CNOOC makes 100 million ton oilfield discovery in South China Sea FILE PHOTO: China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) in Beijing BEIJING (Reuters) - Chinese state-owned oil and gas giant CNOOC Ltd has discovered a new reserve in the South China Sea containing over 100 million tons of oil equivalent proved in-place, the company said in a statement on Friday. The reserve is located at CNOOC's deepwater Kaiping South oilfield in the Pearl River Delta near Guangdong province, and contains light crude, the statement said. CNOOC has invested heavily in developing China's offshore oil and gas reserves as part of a broader push to offset declining output from aging onshore fields. The company lifted its 2024 production target by about 8% to a record 700 million to 720 million barrels of oil equivalent. Domestic production, much of this offshore reserves in eastern China's Bohai Sea and the South China Sea. (Reporting by Andrew Hayley; Editing by Cynthia Osterman)

    NATO

Sweden officially joins NATO, ending decades of post-World War II neutrality MATTHEW LEE AND LORNE COOK March 7, 2024 at 11:29 AM WASHINGTON (AP) — Sweden on Thursday formally joined NATO as the 32nd member of the transatlantic military alliance, ending decades of post-World War II neutrality as concerns about Russian aggression in Europe have spiked following Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Secretary of State Antony Blinken presided at a ceremony in which Sweden’s “instrument of accession” to the alliance was officially deposited at the State Department. “This is a historic moment for Sweden. It's historic for the alliance. It's history for the transatlantic relationship,” Blinken said. “Our NATO alliance is now stronger, larger than it’s ever been.” Kristersson wrote in a social media post that “we are therefore a safer country.” Later Thursday. Kristersson will visit the White House and then be a guest of honor at President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address to Congress. The White House said that having Sweden as a NATO ally “will make the United States and our allies even safer.” "NATO is the most powerful defensive alliance in the history of the world, and it is as critical today to ensuring the security of our citizens as it was 75 years ago when our alliance was founded out of the wreckage of World War II,” it said in a statement. NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg described it as “a historic day.” “Sweden will now take its rightful place at NATO’s table, with an equal say in shaping NATO policies and decisions,” he said in a statement. The Swedish flag will be raised outside the military organization’s headquarters in Brussels on Monday. Stoltenberg underscored that the Nordic country “now enjoys the protection granted under Article 5, the ultimate guarantee of allies’ freedom and security.” Article 5 of NATO’s treaty obliges all members to come to the aid of an ally whose territory or security is under threat. It has only been activated once – by the U.S. after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks – and is the collective security guarantee that Sweden has sought since Russia invaded Ukraine. “Sweden’s accession makes NATO stronger, Sweden safer and the whole alliance more secure,” Stoltenberg said. He added that the move “demonstrates that NATO’s door remains open and that every nation has the right to choose its own path.” Sweden, along with Finland, which joined NATO last year, both abandoned long-standing military neutrality that was a hallmark of the Nordic states’ Cold War foreign policy after Russia invaded Ukraine in early 2022. Biden, in his speech to Congress, is expected to cite Sweden’s accession to NATO as evidence that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s intent to divide and weaken the alliance has failed as a direct result of the Ukraine invasion. And, the Democratic president is expected to use Sweden’s decision to join to step up calls for reluctant Republicans to approved stalled military assistance to Ukraine as the war enters its third year. Biden and his NATO counterparts have vowed that Ukraine will join one day, too. Sweden’s membership had been held up due to objections by NATO members Turkey and Hungary. Turkey expressed concern that Sweden was harboring and not taking enough action against Kurdish groups that it regards as terrorists, and Hungary's populist President Viktor Orban has shown pro-Russian sentiment and not shared the alliance’s determination to support Ukraine. After months of delay, Turkey ratified Sweden’s admission earlier this year, and Hungary did so this week.
