    Furnace advice needed.

I roughly did mine as I didn't know the actual numbers/year of ours, and being told, the efficiency likely decreased significantly over the years, it would take me roughly 11 yrs to pay for ours. That is just the gas savings, not the electricity for the DC motor so it will be less than the 11 yrs, just not sure how much less? https://www.yourmoneypage.com/energy/furnace1.php
  2. I asked a very wealthy friend one time how he amassed such wealth. He said it was a bit of a long story and asked me if I'd mind blowing out his candles while he told me.
  3. Just for you, Sludgey. "The throttle position vs throttle opening calibration also sucks. It takes way too much pedal to get the truck moving. Several friends and family member have bought new trucks this year - none were GM, they all bought Rams. Interestingly enough, all test drove either the Silverado or Sierra and didn't buy them. The main reason was the Ram felt much more powerful. They told me the GMs felt sluggish or slow. I recently drove a 2015 Hemi and It doesn't have the throttle response issues anywhere near as bad. Part throttle was night and day different than my Sierra. At wide open throttle the Ram was faster, but not substantially so. I can see why my friends and family rejected the GM" http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/168791-why-i-hate-my-2014-sierra/ Hard to imagine these same issues still exist today. My only regret is I didn't read about them before I bought my 09. Call it blind faith, and despite the few issue I had with my 97, I thought my 09 would be similar.
  4. Nope, it still existed in 2016 as well. My bud almost drove his through the front window of his dealership. The incompetent idiots changed his tires, then his rims before they put a whole new differential in it. A new Ram for him is coming shortly.
  5. Five new special edition trucks. I'd say they are getting desperate. http://www.chevrolet.com/special-edition-silverado.html You can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig.

Wow, I thought you were stuck for sure! Good tire to keep in mind when the time comes.

This is all I could find so far regarding fan speeds with my new furnace. I read my manual briefly and I didn't see anything about different fan speeds. http://deltaairsystems.com/portfolio/dm96vc-gas-furnace/ "a Daikin two-stage, variable-speed gas furnace minimizes energy use by running at the lowest possible fan speed to produce just the right amount of heat to keep a steady, comfortable temperature in your home" Not sure if it is just an on and off like I mentioned earlier, but it's leaning that way.

I thought about that after the fact. Numerous cottages sit idle all winter while the owners vacation in the south. Not that I have ever heard of a roof collapsing due to the snow load, I am sure it happens once in while on cottages/homes that weren't built well enough with the snow load in mind. I assume they inspected the cottage before hand before providing coverage for that? Not that I have done it in years, but when I use to go to my bud's parents cottage in Wilberforce, that is one the things his Father got us to do while we were up there. Not that I am an expert, but that cottage/roof was well built imo and the roof was at such an angle/pitch, I don't think it would ever be able to hold enough snow to cave it in?
  9. Read below. Like I mentioned earlier, that link/info was paid for by GM or there was something going on with them that aren't part of their normal production models. Like I told you a couple years ago, my 13 Ram would simply embarrass that POS 5.3 I owned, and get better gas milage while doing so. Like Analer stated, the Ram is in another league. How many links/info due you require to accept the fact the 5.3 is a turd and should have never went into production? Besides it being a Turd, what about all the other problems that engine has like using oil, the AMF issue, etc, etc, etc? Accept it Sludgey, it's a dog. Read these if you dare? There right from the horses mouth and not some fabbed up/B.S. article like you posted. http://forum.gon.com/showthread.php?t=275099 http://www.silveradosierra.com/vortec-5-3l-v8/a-very-sluggish-5-3-t14142.html http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/77609-2008-53-motor-under-powered/ http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/168791-why-i-hate-my-2014-sierra/ http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/82578-53l-seams-weak/ http://www.performancetrucks.net/forums/gm-engine-exhaust-performance-21/help-gutless-05-5-3l-278168/

I also seen this, which is something I never thought of, but it looks to work great as well.

Yeah, I like it too. I purchased a rake years ago to do the roof of my old house but I think if I owned a cottage or got as much snow as cottagers usually get, I'd get or make one of those.

Why? No need to get up on top of the roof if you don't want too, but, then again, I didn't realize you could get insurance to cover that?
  13. C'mon, Sludgey, everyone who owns/owned a 5.3 knows they are nothing but a turd, and knowing that, one would also know your little link at the start of this post, if remotely true at all, would have been paid for by GM. My supervisor just took all 3 manu's trucks for a test drive, as he is in the market, and he repeatedly stated how much of a dog the GM and the 5.3 was. He plans on pulling a trailer with his son's moto X bikes in stated the GM he took for a test drive could barely pull itself.

Looks like you need to get that roof shoveled off?

I will be sure to ask them once we go through the manual/settings. We never did much of anything furnace related last night as we were busy. So far so good with everything! My wife and I still can't get over how quiet this unit is. One of her peeves was having to turn up the T.V. volume every time our old furnace kicked on/ran. With this new one, you can barely tell it kicked on, let alone is running.
  16. They mentioned on the news last night about a possible explosion? If that is the case, it explains why everyone perished, including the dogs, who more than likely would have alerted them if it was a fire.

Only an on/off switch and no extra wire ran. It's a Daikin thermo. The fan is on now and I can barely hear it so maybe it is just a low speed fan and nothing else?
  18. Tough loss! Both teams were out of gas so not sure how much longer it could have went? One of the best WJ games I have seen in a while.
  19. Not a way I like to see a game end. Tough loss for us, but good win for the U.S. Congrats.
  20. Yeah, it's definitely noticeable. Going to be a great 3rd period. Hope Canada has enough left in the tank to get it done!

Post #18, Boered. Already purchased and installed Daikin units. http://daikincomfort.com/products/gas-furnaces-90/dm96vc I've had the fan on for a while now and it doesn't seem so bad in at the current stat setting. Not sure about different fan speeds however as I think our's is either on or off? I'll have to dig further into it.
  22. Yep, for sure! I think the game can go either way. U.S. looked good last night but barely got by Russia. Canada looked good also, and after Hart came in, they really excelled imo. It matters not about last nights games as both teams will be willing and raring to go! Toss a coin with this one!

It's her doing, not mine! I try to tell her it's chilly in here and she say put on a some warmer clothes! To be honest, I am use to it for the most part. I have went into friends homes who have theirs in the low 70's and you're not kidding when you say it feels like a sauna! As I have gotten older, I can't take the cold like I use to, but being too hot also bothers me as well. Momma's going to play with the thermostat tonight, that's her thing so hopefully she can figure something out? If not, then just like the cooler temps she likes to keep the house at, I'll/we'll get use to it as well.
