Giving kids antidepressants has dramatically increased. Prescribed for the right diagnosis and anti depressants such as SSRI’s are very safe and effective. The problem comes when they’re prescribed for the wrong diagnosis which tends to happen too often when family doctors are doing the prescribing. It’s no different than anti psychotic medication. Given to a paranoid schizophrenic and the person regains the ability to normalize behavior and thinking. Given for the wrong diagnosis and it’ll create problems.
