They look like Police Officers, But they are not , and they are all over Michigan

The village that I live in has its own volunteer force that will patrol the village at certain times. They are allowed to use retired department vehicles that have no lights or sirens. They usually help with crowd control at community and school events, directing traffic at parades or in the event of an accident. They have no arrest powers, have to call a regular officer when observing something suspicious, are not allowed to confront anyone and cannot carry a gun. under these guidelines I personally don't see a problem with a reserve force. I do have a problem with an individual with little to no training being given a plastic badge and a real gun and allowing them to go out on "patrol". We see enough abuse from regular cops, this is just asking for trouble.

This won’t last long. The civilians will do a better job. They’ll problem solve and interact with the public. Cops will be threatened.

i disagree,  you'll get the chip on the shoulders guys in many cases who coudn't pass a background (vs the average cop with a chip on their shoulder who can hide it enough to pass) and will abuse the power.

Back in the day when smoking was just getting banned everywhere,  I had to tell one of those fakes to pound sand.

"I'll call the cops!"

I got kicked out of Fenway park for smoking in an ally off of yawkee way.
