They are in Maine too. The lobster industry is taking a big hit

I finance quite a few fisherman, high bait prices are hurting them way more than tariffs. Demand is still very strong overseas for our lobster even with tariffs. Soft shell lobsters haven't come out in force yet which is what everyone is waiting for as that is where the real money is made each year and those can't be exported without processing first anyways

The fishermen have spent years getting China and Japan to buy their lobsters. Now it’s all going away. It’s gonna hurt big time.

How much is related to Canada negotiating zero tariff lobster sales with Europe?  People need to be careful and not focus on one thing when it comes to markets.   Yes tariffs can have an impact but with trade 100's of factors play a part in it.   Just like I posted the other day where soybean acres planted are up 10% since 2016.  Tariffs alone aren't impacting those prices but everyone likes to make it look as if they have.

Should Maine fisherman be pissed at Canada too?

Maine lobster industry braces for impact of Canada’s sweet EU deal

Canada's new agreement with the European Union eliminates an 8% tariff on Canadian lobster sales in Europe, putting lobster suppliers in Maine and Massachusetts at a big disadvantage.

Imports will be taxed at 25%, that is not all sales going to China "going away". The Chinese have always bought rock lobsters from southeast Asia up until recently which dont taste remotely as good as ours. Now that the Chinese have a taste for our lobster they aren't going back to an inferior product. An outright ban would hurt severely but I doubt you will even see much movement on price especially for hardshells which are live shipped to China for significant fees
