Platinum Contributing Member steve from amherst Posted March 27, 2018 Platinum Contributing Member Share Posted March 27, 2018 Atlantic salmon farming has been banned from Washington state waters after Gov. Jay Inslee signed the restrictions on nonnative fish farms into law last week in Olympia. "These present a risk to our wild salmon runs that we cannot tolerate," Inslee said. The move comes eight months after an ill-fated fish farm near Anacortes started to come undone in a strong current on an otherwise calm summer day. The floating farm, owned by New Brunswick, Canada-based Cooke Aquaculture, tore apart a month later, letting as many as 250,000 Atlantic salmon escape into Puget Sound. https://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2018/03/26/597019406/after-three-decades-washington-state-bans-atlantic-salmon-farms
Platinum Contributing Member Highmark Posted March 27, 2018 Platinum Contributing Member Share Posted March 27, 2018 Have to say I understand this with what happened on the Illinois river and Asian carp. I believe it was caused by a fish farm getting hit with a flood.

Some fucking hillbilly catfish farmer in Arkansas brought in asian carp to keep his ponds clean, a flood occurred that allowed the fish to escape and eventually make it to the Mississippi River system

What an ecosystem disaster.
GGNHL
Well they're building two of these farms in Maine so we'll take the tax revenue and such no problem.
Gold Member BOHICA Posted March 27, 2018 Gold Member Share Posted March 27, 2018 Hope this doesn’t make my Costco salmon fillets increase in price. no Atlantic salmon have breed in the pacific and lab attempts at breeding Atlantic and pacific have been unsuccessful. state of Washington has released Atlantic salmon 3 times in the past in an attempt to establish a wild fishery for them but was unsuccessful
