I personally haven't had a Baler since 2016. Wife had one until 2 seasons ago. Still one of the best riding sleds I will say. Nothing wrong with the Lynx either it's just not as trail friendly as other sleds from what I'm told by the guys that had it for 3 days. If they rode more off trail and ditch pounding then they would consider buying a Lynx. Out of the 5 guys that rode it 3 are buying new Doo's and the other 2 are keeping their current sled. One friend that had a Cat turbo sold it and put money down on a Lynx but now he's not sure if he's going to take it.

Kiekhaefer powered SKI-Doo?? In 1970 Carl Kiekhaefer broke away from Kiekhaefer Mercury and restarted Kiekhaefer Aeromarine Motors his original company. After failed attempts at building a successful snowmobile Carl turned his attention as being an engine supplier. He set his test bed on racing and built a 649CC F/A 3 cylinder mounted in 1971 Polaris TX chassis which won both oval and obstacle course events in the open non production class with engine sizes larger then 800CC. He later turned the lead design over to his son Fred to build a liquid cooled motor. Fred designed an inverted V-twin liquid cooled. They made the rounds of all the major manufactures with Ski-Doo showing the most interest because at that time they did not have a liquid cooled motor. In May of 1973 the papers were being drawn up with a closing date of July 1 1973. The problem was 1973 was a terrible snow year and after the year was over all the manufactures had extensive carryover inventory and Rotax had also come out with their own liquid cooled engine. It was agreed upon by both parties to back away from the deal. Fred Kiekhaefer still has 2 V-twin motors, one under a coffee table the other still mounted in its Chaparral test chassis.

When they went it was all seasoned Ski-Doo riders and I didn't have the secret Ski-Doo hand shake to go alone. They actually asked but I was in Tennessee for work when they went. They put on over 300 miles are it and to your point they also said it was not user friendly to adjust on the trail. They loaded it into trailer at night and made adjustments in the morning before they left or by tipping the sled on its side and knocking the snow out of the suspension. We're all trail riders and the consensus was they're own sleds all new or year old Ski-Doo's had better trail manners. The Lynx was fun on the straights pulling the skis up at will coming into the corners nice but got light on ski pressure coming out of the corners and pushed. They tightened up the limit strap but it's a bungy cord like material and stretches. They thought if they could have put a conventional strap on it it would helped in the corners but didn't know how that would effect the rest of the suspension.

Group of guys I ride with had a Lynx for 3 days and none of them are buying one. They all said it's more of a 60-40 off trail sled. With suspension uncoupled and the front limiter strap more like a budgie cord you'd come into the corners nice but when your back on the throttle the skis are in the air. Fun sled if you want to just hang the skies in the air. I wasn't with them but by the last day they were all back on they're own sleds and the Lynx was in the trailer. These are all Ski-Doo riders.

I don't like my helmet being tethered to the sled never have. I know the Oxygen helmet has the magnetic tether on the back do you need the helmet tethered all the time even on warm days. One of the guys I ride with said it would start fogging up even on warm days if you didn't tether it but he was the only one to say that.

We kept our old LMC to do one section until we got a reroute for that trail. For us in central Wisconsin the Challenges work good. There's been years when we had a stand alone groomer and never used it with no snow. With the Challenges we get income when we rent them out during the off season, we're able to use them in the fall to level out plowed fields and brushing and groom in the winter. I'm also in a club in Northern Wisconsin by our cabin and help with trail brushing but not active in grooming. They have a Fendt tractor used for trail brushing and some grooming, New Holland's with spicy tracks and piston bully's. They place each groomer based on the trail terrain that best fits the groomer.

Funny story. Years ago I use to do a lot of radar runs. I had top speed in trail stock. A friend of mine blew his track in improved so I was helping him change the track in his trailer. Some other freinds of mine talked my wife into registering my sled under a fake name and had her run my sled without me knowing and she beat my top speed. We went up afterwords and I'm looking and now I'm in 2nd place and have no idea who this girl is. I take my 2nd place trophy still wondering who beat me. As they announce the name my wife walks up to except thr trophy and all my buddies are laughing their asses off. She still has that trophy.

My wife always had no problem keeping up when we rode together. She got thrown off her sled 2 years ago and broke some ribs. Ever since then she still rides good but would do better if I put a piece of tape over the speedometer.

Yes you need to look at your bridges. We put in a pair of 4ft culverts to replace a bridge, rerouted a trail and one bridge we have a neighboring club groom up to a bridge where we groom to the other side. The 45 Challenge is 22,000 and MT 755 is 29,000. Both we rent out to select farmers to do light field work during the off season.

Yes our club has 2 of them. They work great other than road crossings with deep ditches early in the year.

I'm retiring on October officially December 31. Also enjoy the grooming side of the sport

I'm good with it. You can only make so many post about the Polaris employees possible looses their benefit to use sleds on the weekends because of high demand. Who's clutch kit is the greatest. What studs to use. To use a bearing in the 2ndary with or without shims or use delrin washer and how many. Still some good guys there but when I drop in every once and a while some of the threads have lost their value pages ago. I'm good the way its turning out and waiting for my sled.

A couple weeks again I got a survey from Polaris asking detailed questions about helmets. Questions included asking about speakers, blue tooth compatible, communicating with passenger and other riders in your group, tethered to your sled, untethered with rechargeable battery bigger viewing area. Seems like Polaris may be looking at or possible coming out with a new helmet with additional features.

Yes my friend use to own it before K&M bought it about 20 years ago and Fastsledders nephew works there I believe.
