Gold Member BOHICA Posted July 1, 2023 Gold Member Share Posted July 1, 2023 BAY CITY, MI - It was a bittersweet day for a crowd of over 150 people that gathered to watch the flag be lowered for the very last time at a Consumers Energy facility in Bay County. Workers and their families as well as officials gathered together on Wednesday, June 14 to say farewell to the D.E. Karn 1 and 2 coal facilities at the Consumers Energy plant situated alongside the Saginaw Bay. The closure of the Karn facilities in Hampton Township is the latest in coal-fired facility closures across the state as Consumers works towards its goal to end coal usage by 2025. The company is instead focusing on clean energy sources such as wind and solar generation. “Today we are embarking on a new future that will be cleaner and leaner - a cleaner and leaner energy company,” said Tonya Berry, senior VP of transformation and engineering. https://www.mlive.com/news/saginaw-bay-city/2023/06/coal-plants-close-in-bay-county-as-consumers-energy-moves-toward-clean-energy.html?outputType=amp Quote
