  1. I have schedule C's and depreciation and half a dozen 1099's etc. I thought $500 was reasonable but when I realized how simple it really is I know that I will never pay someone that much to do them again. Plus, being unemployed makes you revisit your discretionary spending.
  2. Better than I expected. I paid $3000 less taxes on almost the exact same income. I made slightly more this year. My effective tax rate is 15.1%. Turbo Tax tells you that at the very end before you hit submit.
  3. I realize this is no big deal and millions of people do their own taxes every year but it was kind of a big step for me. For 34 years I had the same accountant do my taxes. He was a friend I met in Anchorage after college. Every year I would gather and organize all the income in one pile and the expenses in the other. I would schedule my annual 1hr meeting. I would sit down with Mike and we would shoot the shit for 58 minutes. The last 2 minutes of the meeting Mike would start punching numbers into the calculator and then proclaim I was getting the small refund that I always expected. I was proud to say I had an accountant and didn't mind paying someone to do the job correctly. Well, Fall of 2017 Mike decided he was going to move back to his home town in Oregon and start a grow operation with a childhood friend. Mike said he was taking all his clients with him, at least the ones that wanted to stay with him. I kinda like spending my money in Alaska and let Mike know that I might have to find a new accountant that was local. He was a little upset by this but figured I was just talking. Mike did my 2017 taxes. I got him all the information required and had my annual appointment on about Feb 15th. I bugged Mike a few times wondering when I would need to come in a sign my taxes. Two months later Mike tells me he had to file an extension. He was so swamped with taxes and the grow operation that he hadn't completed mine. Another 2 months go by and I finally get to file my taxes. I wasn't real happy but it wasn't big deal either. Fast Forward to 2019. This year I decided to give Turbo Tax a try. All 3 of my kids use Turbo Tax and they assured me it would be easy. Sure enough, I logged on to TT and entered all my info. The entire process took about 1hr and that is because I went real slow and made triple sure everything was perfect. Paid my $39.95 to Turbo Tax, Signed electronically, Hit the submit button and 5 minutes later I got an email saying my Federal tax return was accepted by the IRS. Saved myself almost $500 and took less time than I typically spent just collecting all the documents and driving to my appointment. Turbo Tax is bad ass.
  4. This is a simple concept to grasp. I dont understand why so many here are having trouble with it.
  5. Yep. Mueller has nothing on trump or anyone named trump so the Dems have to continue investigating. Its all they have because they sure dont have an agenda or leadership.
  6. The Farewell Burn. Well, according to riders who were there this week, the burn itself was still fairly snowless but the tree riding on each end of the burn had plenty of snow. Trail class riders said it was the most snow they had ever seen in the 90 miles from Rohn to Nikolai.
  7. So this is the horrible trail conditions teams will encounter tomorrow......... The 90 miles between Kaltag an Unalakleet. Trail class teams today taking a nice rest before hitting the coast.
  8. Nice write up kyle. Let me add just a little detail to the first video. Team 14 had caught up to Team 20 between Ruby and Galena. BIG B (Team 14 Casey Boylan) entered the checkpoint first (seconds before the video started. Followed by Team 20 Scott Faeo. In the video coming in sideways is LIL B (Team 14 Bryan Leslie). Team 20 Robbie Schachle is the last rider into the Galena refueling checkpoint. BIG and LIL B refueled fast and got out just ahead of Team 20. From there Team 14 put the flipper to the bar and basically left Team 20 in the dust. LIL B said he never even say their headlights once they were back on the river after Galena. LIL B told me their sleds have several MPH over Team 20 sleds but nothing for Team 10 sleds.
  9. Team 17 rode 20 miles like this and were still 60 miles from their plane when they threw in the towel.
  10. So the story today is Team 8. Obviously the front runners have been battling it out all day trading decals and laughing at each other at the fuel stops but back in the pack Team 8 made their repairs to Tylers sled and got back on the trail. I don't have exact details but I suspect Tyson told Tyler he could weld the sled up and get them back in the race. I think they welded the broken drop brackets back in place and braced everything up. Tyson is a very good TIG welder so no doubt he was able to fix them right up. IT looks to me like the repairs took about 1hr 15 minutes, or close to that. Once on the clock Team 8 started picking off teams one by one. I think they got back on the trail in about 12th place. By the end of the day they were in Kaktag in 6th place. They passed most of the other teams in the rough stuff between Opher and Ruby. Once on the river they just hammered down and passed two other teams with relative ease. IF I were Team 5 or Team 6 I would be concerned with Team 8 breathing down my neck. All the numbers are on the STATS page but it seems to me like Team * made up over 30 minutes of time on the 75 minutes they gave up fixing their sleds this morning. Either way, Team 8 was the fastest team on the course today, by a long ways.
  11. Great coverage though. Have you seen some of the videos coming out of the villages. Locals are doing us right this year.
  12. S I will try to look for it. It was late last night. There have literally been thousands of posts on the Iron Dog Group facebook page. Shit posted 30 minutes ago is virtually gone.
  13. There are some pictures of Bobbys sled and Rays sled on Facebook.
  14. Team 15 just scratched. Unofficially I heard Micah hit a tree today south of Poorman and that slowed them down a bunch. They just scratched minutes ago in Ruby. Team 35 hit a nasty hole in the Alaska Range. I think it was before Puntilla. They pushed on through the evening finally making it to McGrath. Got checked at the clinich and it was a broken clavicle is what I heard. Team 17 hit something or maybe several things between Rohn and Nikolai. Rays sled was wasted pulling into Nikolai. Horrible snow and visibility prevented their pilot from flying. Pilot was in McGrath with parts but they just couldn't make it.
  15. Hahahaha, Police have now traced to the Noose Rope back to rope Smollet actually paid for himself. What a stupid fuck. This moron needs to go down.
  16. It would be funny if he raised several million in his legal defense fund and then for Trump to just pardon him anyway.
  17. Maybe. But they had some problems about an hour ago too. They stopped about 20 miles from Poorman for at least 20 minutes. About 3 teams went by them. They are moving now but not super fast.
  18. No. Al Sharptons opinions isn't news where I come from.
  19. I thought the lid blew off this crapper a couple of days ago? He needs to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
