Ordered XHD torsions, mid height deep snow white windshield and the larger Polaris windshield bag for it today. Going to start the search for a proper dual rate spring set for the front skid shock as well. I will make a decision on the front springs/shocks after I ride it.

lot of Cat guys were swapping to the triple rate Raptor fts springs and seemed to like them.

pretty sure I'm ordering a dual rate setup from Hygear for the 500 when I put the Zero X's on after Carver revalves them.

My 2012 800 has the original cobra track on it with 7200 miles.  Still looks quite good and haven't had plans to change it.  Can is still stud this "older used" track and do i need to do 96 or 144 studs?  don't mind spending a few hundred bucks on 1.5" studs if it will make the sled better.

agree 100% with Doug - also, is yours a single ply Cobra or two ply Cobra?

this might also help... and they have good products for reasonable prices

Never really been a 1.352 Cobra fan.

I want enough traction for glare ice, otherwise I would be fine with an unstudded track.

Cobra is $515ish. 96 studs is $200-250. Ice Attak or Ice Cobra is $595ish.

Ice Storm right?  1.5 ctr of belt and 1.25 on outer lugs.  39lbs w/144 pins

Ice Cobra is a piece of shit on ice (according to most) and has far less pins. 43/45lbs w/104 pins

Ice Attak XT is 42lbs w/256pins

interesting that they list the Ice Storm being that much lighter but less pins and an entirely different lug layout

(my 128" Ice Attak XT in 2.52P is 42lbs and has 272 pins)

    137. My temp issues always stem from lack of snow on the coolers and lack of coolers themselves. 600 HO Fusions always struggled with coolant temp issues. I could literally feel the difference in the sled, when the trail would get thin because even with all of the extra wheels I was running, I could feel the hyfax drag more. Click the temp gauge up and it was running 10-15 degrees warmer already. Hit a patch of good snow, all was gone just as fast. Try to crawl through the woods with the women in the family, it was always running warm. Even if it was cold and there was good snow.

That’s the biggest thing that I’m trying to avoid with this sled. With the full length tunnel coolers, and the front tunnel cooler, I’m guessing this sled will be harder to overheat like that but in general, a taller lug track will run warmer in a situation as I described, in my experiences. So, while the 1.22” track will get the job done, the 1.5” track would probably be a little more fun. But then there is the gear down factor and the fact that this sled will always just be on a groomed trail.

Every Indy rider has thus far told me to go Storm but they are all riding 800/850’s too. I’m sure the 600 would do just fine with it, as long as it’s geared down to compensate, but eh, decisions, decisions.

I hear you, but added scratchers to the 720 after burning it down for when it's necessary, also added panel venting and a temp gauge (rather than a 'you overcooked it' light) to avoid it happening again.  I don't know that you'd have to re-gear it but recalled seeing different gearing for the Indy's based on track lug height in the parts fiche for different models.  The main reason I would go for the 1.5" is that I know you like to ride the Yoop and the Storm seems to be a favorite for guys that trail ride up there in good snow conditions.  Heck, there's several Cat guys with 137's that switched out their Rip2's for Storms and gave rave reviews.  It's just those low snow, rock hard riding conditions you really need to watch out for and make sure anyone who's riding takes a look at the temp on occasion.  Lot of guys using the latest BRP tunnel mounted scratchers which you can reverse.  If it was me in your shoes I wouldn't think twice about doing to panel vent mod and adding scratchers.

    https://shop.ski-doo.com/us/en/snowmobile-accessories/snowflaps-ice-scratchers-air-radiator-kits/ice-scratchers.html

I used Cat scratchers, to help continue supporting Textron :lmao:

Will also add a set to the 500 next year.

Why not a studded Cobra 1.35?

which imo and if I were buying a 'new' sled would be my first choice for trail riding - Cobra is a great track.  I just wanted to try an ice track, get rid of the 14"W 1" lug speed track and since Camso made the 128 Cobra 'a Polaris exclusive' track, the price went up significantly, I re-geared, went 1.22" and want to see how well I can get this one to top-end.  jury is still out with me on the Ice Attak as I only got one ride on it in loose fresh snow which with a Cobra is fantastic.  most of our trails are groomed and smooth and it's going to be a limited use sled.

Yeah, it was a rental. I think I’ll be giving the Ice Storm a try. I put an Ice Attack XT on the wife’s Classic and it seems like it’s a really hard durameter track. It makes a TON of noise. The only thing that I DONT want is a sled that runs warm all the time because of a tall lug track, shit snow conditions and slow speeds when riding with the wife and her family. I HATE scratchers on a trail sled too. So I am still torn between an Attack and a Storm.

The place in your link is $10 cheaper than Snow City MI. That’s where I’ve gotten all of my tracks in recent history.

129 or 137?   If the Ice Storm was an option for mine I probably would have bought one and left the SX gearing in it.  Spend the extra $ on DuPont Vespel slides.

Gearing is interesting.  They list the 600 SP 137 with 22/41 (1.25) but the 600 XC 137 (1.5) with 20/39 - same as all the sleds with 1.5/1.6/1.75  My friends 600 Assault 1.25 pulled well with 22/41 fwiw.

CB for my 128 IA XT was $60-100 less when I bought it for some reason?  maybe Covid :dunno:

edit:  also, for you or anyone else with an Indy 600/800/850 that runs warm or if you want to drop underhood temps - read this.  cheap and easy mod.

Um, the fuckin cords are showing brah. No thanks. I’ll just replace the damn thing. Chaincase and bearings need to be serviced too so, no biggie. $600 track beats the shit out of a wrecked trip.

zip ties and a cordless drill

let me guess, that was a rental sled.

fwiw, I put the Ice Attak XT on the 720 this winter but only got one ride on it.  So far so good, but for loose snow the Cobra is far better.  if that one is a 137" you have a shitload of choices, and might also consider the Ice Storm 150. (same price)

CB Performance had (by far!) the best price on the Ice Attak and Camso tracks fwiw...

PC is still the best Chassis out there so, not sure I'd take a 2012 over a new Matrix but, I'd sell the Matrix to some half wit, hell...even throw in a $500 XXXL Klim jacket then, build up a 2015/16 PC.

how on earth is it that the 'issues' he cites in the 2012 MY video, are still being complained about today... an entire decade later?  they don't need to reinvent the wheel - just fix the shit people want to see improved on the PC, redress it so the lemmings think it's something all new, offer it in colors the loyalists will buy and send it.  how challenging is it to make a better seat for a company that builds war planes and helicopters?  same skid since the 1990's, but they figured out a brand new front end when no one was complaining about the old one?  since 2012 they've changed the plastics/h-lamp (big f'ng deal) and are using a new engine (which they had no longer had choice in) that has questionable durability and is one step behind the competition?  our brand is in trouble bro...

The terrain races didnt happed due to snow , Todd said they had to keep finding venues either due to covid concerns or due to low/marginal snow conditions , its for sure tough when you cant make snow to make an event happen

ISOC and the venues where races happened to their credit went to extraordinary lengths to make SX events possible this winter.  Can't imagine what monumental efforts it would take to fill the ditches with snow to run the I500 or even an I50 this past winter.  That said kudos to COR/USXC for making lake events a reality in these times, and hat's off to all the folks that make watching racing these days even possible... except those whiners hiding in 'tech'.   :lol2:

Alot of the racers have said the alpha isn't good in hill climb conditions since its gets heavily rutted and hard packed. The Alpha thrives in deep snow and where you can carve and dont need the bite the twin rail setup provides.

    Where should they have raced?

There wasn't enough snow anywhere willing to dole out permits to race.

which was a big part of the reason they went 129" and the old spindles with the RXC's

did Polaris really even run a full factory effort in XC racing this year?  I know the Bunke's ran but can't recall hearing much about AC10, or the kid who got busted clipping corners and riding outside the markers and was acting like a bitch last year.
