PERSONAL opinions of an OPP SAVE officer
Once off your own property you're required to carry proof of registration and insurance and present it upon demand at all times. The officer can use his/her discretion and allow time to produce but it's completely up to the officer. The Motorized Snow Vehicle Act (MSVA) covers all areas outside private property. As for speeding, the MSVA references prescribed trails and municipal areas. Technically a staked and opened trail along a lake would fall into that. I've never issued a speeding ticket on a lake nor has anyone in my unit to the best of my knowledge. And really...just ride beside the stake trail and you're no longer on OFSC trails. Too bad about your buddies. I wasn't there and can't comment specifically on their situation...but hope my answer helps.

If the charges are under the traffic, they affect your DL. If you do not have a licence, the MTO generates a DL number for you. Should you ever try to get one..that record will stay with it. As for your other question. The answer was based on absolute black/white. Real life as you know can be different. Happy/funny drinks always fare better than their counterparts. You (general"you") determine how each interaction will go.

Short/easy answer is no. But you can be charged with public intoxication and held until sober. You could also be charged with any traffic act laws you break such as careless depending on poor your riding is. The traffic act charges WOULD affect your drivers licence. Hope you win the bet!

Sled Accident in Kaladar
After he was airlifted, the rider(in his late 50's) was stable and non life threatening. No alcohol involved. They had not ridden that trail before. I SUSPECT but NOT confirmed that speed was a factor based on what I've read. Be safe out there guys/girls... Only takes one second of inattention. Sean

Oh, sorry Poncho. I misunderstood. Both a current AND expired were produced at the same time? If so, that happens a lot. People let the slips pile up for whatever reason... If a current slip was produced at the traffic stop, at the same time and it was legit without issues I fail to see how a charge could be laid. The act requires you to produce a VALID card, it does not refer to expired cards or how many cards you can carry.

If you're talking vehicle it is $50 fine/$65 total (compulsory automobile insurance act s3(1) ) If you're talking MSV it's $85 fine?$110 total (motorized snow vehicle act s12(2) ). According the acts, you are required to produce proof or evidence of insurance upon demand, similar to your licence or registration. Like 99% of provincial statutes an officer can exercise discretion and simply warn, provide time to produce or issue you a provincial offences notice (ticket).

The driver was both prohibited and suspended. The suspensions could result from various reasons from unpaid fines to failure to pay family support. It is a provincial level offence. The prohibition is a criminal court order not to drive basically anything anywhere. A much more serious offence and involves a 45 day impediment of the vehicle being driven. Prohibition is ordered in court following a CRIMINAL code conviction for any sort of driving offence. Think dangerous, impaired etc... Lemme know if that clears it up or makes it more confusing!! Ask for Jack Summers, tell him Sean sent you... Also, our team uses the SENA Communicators. They are user friendly, have their own app, good for about 150' sled to sled. We have our GPS, police comms, and intercom integrated without issue. Sean

Shitty day....
You guys are awesome!! Thanks for the comments... Nothing quite like a man and his dog, eh?!? Today I went to the KIngston Humane Society where they had me pick a kennel they are naming in his honour and making him a "guardian angel". Apparently this little dog was much bigger than I ever thought!! I will continue my efforts with the Humane society and the 2020 walk will be in his memory. Thanks again guys... you helped make it just a little easier!!! Sean

Shitty day....
Many of you know I have a black lab with a kick ass back story... About 3 weeks ago Rupert was diagnosed with cancer (two masses) in his left rear leg. Normally this would just be an amputation and he'd be good. However due to his extreme injuries from the car accident he was not a candidate. His best friend and Dr, Cherie White prescribed a pain management therapy and he continued on as normal...well as normal gets for a dog rebuilt after being hit on the 401!! We had a great 3 weeks of eating and drinking all the food!! (he may have shared a Corona as well...) But sadly, Rupert was put to rest this morning. I am absolutely devastated and working on recovering but as you know all too well, it's not easy. I will forever be grateful to you guys for all your support over the years with our fundraising. We've saved many dogs and gave Rupert a lasting legacy. He was given an extra 10yrs nobody thought he had and lived large!!! Rest assured, I will continue to work with the Humane Society as best I can. I can never say enough good things about the work they do!! Thanks guys... I'm going to wipe the tears from my eyes and grab a stiff drink! To those with pets, hug them tight!!!
