Happy 4th to everyone. ๐
Was supposed to head back to Vermilion on the 5th but fell through.
Staying home and extending the weekend with a few days off to hopefully catch up at home. Wife has had a couple of recent hospitalizations so I'm way behind.

I've "survived" the Cold War, closer than most, and I'm really trying to figure out WTF happened to society (yeah that sounds old but whatever!).
I was born in the 70s, grew up in the 80s, and learned in the 90s. I'm a Gen-Xer. What the actual fuck happened to people?! I grew up knowing where the fallout shelters were and how to get to them as soon as f-ing possible. I also grew up with nobody at home because my dad was a shitbag who ran off. Guess what, we made due. I knew how we were doing financially because we were told whether we could use the AC or not, or, if we had cable or not (spent a year watching MTV in its infancy).
I was convinced I was going to die by quicksand, burn to death (stop, drop, and roll), or nuclear war. Totally convinced life was fucked. By the reference above regarding the Cold War, been there, saw it. Lines and lines of M1A1s at the Fulda Gap with no fuel, Been to East Berlin, to a cafe where you had 2 choices for lunch, both cooked over coal fire. We were supposed to eat at the Russian Tea Room that day, I was 16, can't remember why we didn't. I do remember the gorgeous East German girl in the cafe who couldn't fathom the Monte Carlo SS we were driving. She was smitten. As were the Russians who swarmed it outside of the Russian War Museum in East Berlin.
So yeah, life sucks. Wish things were different, more secure, blah blah blah.... Life is a gift. Better yet, life is a gift in a capitalist county! We ride snowmobiles! Doesn't get any better than that, Been riding since I was 6! Wouldn't trade it for the world!
End of rant. Tired of bitching. Life goes on (and I take care of people for a living so there's that).

It is so quiet in the house at times.
Miss him dearly. He got me through some pretty rough times.
It's amazing how quiet and empty the house gets when they're gone.
Daughter moved back in with us and brought her dog. She's tiding us over for now but not sure what we'll do when she's gone...

Minocqua Brewing ... at it again

Looks like he's not supposed to be open at all?

Bangstad loses zoning appeal in Oneida County, cannot open business this summer
On Thursday morning, the Oneida County zoning committee declined to reverse its decision to revoke the conditional use permit for Bangstadโs Minocqua taproom. This means the business will not be legally allowed to open this summer.
The zoning dispute dates back to 2021, when local officials required Bangstad to install curbs, create a stormwater plan and make other zoning changes to the Minocqua property. He refused and has battled town and county officials in the years since.
Bangstad, who was disruptive during the meeting, was eventually removed by an Oneida County Sheriffโs captain, WJFW-TV reported. He has repeatedly claimed that he is being targeted by the town of Minocqua and Oneida County for his political activism, a claim officials deny. He previously sued local officials in federal court claiming First Amendment violations. A judge dismissed that case in June.
